Funding Targets the Intersection of Climate Change and Health
Burroughs Wellcome Fund: Climate Change and Human Health Seed Grants

The Burroughs Wellcome Fund (BWF) is dedicated to improving human health through education and powering discovery in frontiers of greatest need. Except for some education programs limited to North Carolina, all BWF programs are open to nonprofit institutions in the U.S. and Canada. The Climate Change and Human Health Seed Grants program awards grants of $2,500 to $50,000 to stimulate the growth of new connections between scholars working in largely disconnected fields who might together change the course of climate change's impact on human health. Of particular interest are activities that build connections between basic/early biomedical scientific approaches and ecological, environmental, geological, geographic, and planetary-scale thinking, as well as with population-focused fields including epidemiology and public health, demography, economics, and urban planning. Support is also provided for work piloting new approaches or interactions toward reducing the impact of health-centered activities; preparation for the impacts of extreme weather and other crises driving large scale disruptions impacting human health and healthcare delivery; and public outreach, climate communication, and education efforts focused on the intersection of climate and health. Nonprofit organizations and degree-granting institutions in Canada and the United States are eligible to apply. Deadlines for this program are quarterly and can be found at the Fund's website. The next application deadline is October 13, 2022. Visit the Fund's website to download the request for proposals.

Upcoming Online Education Trainings
Live Webinars

Unless otherwise noted, all Online Education Trainings are webinars,
are 90 minutes in duration, and are scheduled to begin at 2 PM Eastern Time.

Strategic Planning: The Beginning

Did you know that your organization can double your chances for success simply by creating a current and relevant strategic plan to guide growth?

Unfortunately, more than 70% of nonprofits that have a written plan admit that the document is sitting on a shelf collecting dust, and we want to make sure yours is not one of them! During this webinar, Marie Palacios, Lead Consultant at Funding for Good, will break down the ten things every organization should know before drafting the final document.

This webinar is perfect for you if you’re seeking to begin a planning process that engages your entire team and produces a realistic action-focused plan.

You will walk away with a greater understanding of different approaches to the process, professional tips on what works and what does not, and an arsenal of strategies to generate buy-in from your board, staff, and stakeholders. The webinar will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2022.

Building a Nonprofit Brand (NEW)

Is branding an afterthought for your nonprofit organization?

It shouldn’t be, because what people think about your nonprofit influences your ability to build capacity. Whether you’re trying to compete for funding, people, or donations, strong branding must be present.

But branding is much more than logo and look. Branding is the sum total of perceptions about what a nonprofit stands for, what it does, and how much social impact it is thought to achieve. And many new, emerging, or established organizations struggle with messaging and visuals.

During this webinar, Mindy Muller will help you ensure your organization’s forward face matches the value you provide behind the scenes. The webinar will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.

Plan for Financial Success: Budgeting and Forecasting

Do you find the budgeting process confusing? If you’re like many nonprofits, you may not be aware of the various budgeting methodologies you could employ. Or perhaps you struggle with understanding the difference between budgeting and forecasting and the goal for each.

If the mere thought of budgeting makes you feel overwhelmed and you do not know where to start, then join Don Needs and Boyd Orr of Jitasa as they cover how you can start your budget or improve your current processes. The webinar will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2022.

An Introduction to Our Director of Marketing, Jill Cochran

I started working at GrantStation six years ago to manage social media and assist with marketing and partner programs. I was new to the nonprofit sector and didn't know much about the grantseeking process. I have since learned a lot about the hard work and dedication it takes behind the scenes to find support for your programs. My focus is always on how to help our Members learn more about the resources on GrantStation that can help in the search for funding.

I work closely with our CEO, Ellen Mowrer, to keep you updated on everything that's happening at GrantStation. We update GrantStation's homepage weekly and send emails to make it easier for you to find out about sales, webinars, and important information. We also run the Partner Depot program, which offers trusted partners a way to share their events and information with you.

While you're reading our newsletter or checking out GrantStation.com, I hope you have a chance to read TrendTrack, which features Tracks to Success articles and our GS Insights blog. I work to update it each week with articles from our talented staff and guest authors. They research and write in-depth, relevant articles that we are proud to publish.

I'm also the person behind our social media pages. I share content that is helpful or interesting for grantseekers and nonprofits, and news that is relevant to the philanthropy sector. My goal is to make a positive impact on those who take the time to connect with us. Say hi and join us on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and YouTube!
