Support for Programs Serving Native American Farmers and Ranchers
First Nations Development Institute: Keepseagle Fast-Track Grants to Support Native Farmers and Ranchers

First Nations Development Institute works to support healthy Native communities by investing in innovative institutions that strengthen asset control and support economic development for American Indian people and their communities. The Keepseagle Fast-Track Grants to Support Native Farmers and Ranchers, provided under the First Nations Native Agriculture and Food Systems Initiative, is offering grants of up to $40,000 to organizations in Native communities for programs that serve or directly collaborate with Native American farmers and ranchers. Native American-controlled nonprofit organizations, tribal organizations, and Native American community-based groups that further Native American farming and ranching activities are eligible to apply. The deadline for letters of intent is October 5, 2018; full proposals are due December 14, 2018. Visit the First Nations website for more information.

Efforts to Address the Needs of Alzheimer’s Caregivers Recognized
Rosalinde Gilbert Innovations in Alzheimer’s Disease Caregiving Legacy Awards

The Rosalinde Gilbert Innovations in Alzheimer’s Disease Caregiving Legacy Awards, administered by the Family Caregiver Alliance, promote innovation in the field of Alzheimer’s caregiving by recognizing efforts that lead the way in addressing the needs of Alzheimer’s caregivers. One award of $20,000 will be presented to a nonprofit organization, government agency, or university in each of the following categories: The Creative Expression award encourages programs that use novel approaches to support persons with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and their family and informal caregivers. The Diverse/Multicultural Communities award recognizes outreach programs to family and informal caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias in ethnic, rural, religious, low-income, LGBT, and other diverse communities. The Public Policy award promotes programs that advocate for policy or systems change for the benefit of family and informal caregivers or persons with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias. School Gardens in the U.S. and Canada Funded
Whole Kids Foundation: School Garden Grant Program

The Whole Kids Foundation is dedicated to supporting schools and inspiring families to improve children’s nutrition and wellness.The Foundation’s School Garden Grant Program provides support for edible gardens at K-12 schools in the U.S. and Canada. These grants of $2,000 are awarded to schools and nonprofit organizations working in partnership with schools. Consideration is given to new or existing garden projects at any stage of development that help children engage with fresh fruits and vegetables. Applications are due October 15, 2018, for both U.S. and Canadian projects. Visit the Foundation’s website to learn more about the program.

Grants Promote Recorded Sound Preservation and Appreciation Projects
GRAMMY Museum Grants Program

The aim of the GRAMMY Museum Grants Program is to advance the archiving of the recorded sound heritage of the Americas and to explore the impact of music on the human condition. Support is provided to organizations and individuals in the following areas: The Archiving and Preservation Projects category supports efforts that advance the archiving and preservation of the music and recorded sound heritage of the Americas through Preservation Implementation grants of up to $20,000, and Assistance, Assessment, or Consultation grants of up to $5,000. The Scientific Research Projects category provides grants of up to $20,000 for research on the impact of music on the human condition. Examples include the study of the effects of music on mood, cognition, and healing, as well as the medical and occupational well-being of music professionals and the creative process underlying music. Community Enhancement Projects in Company Communities Supported
Baltimore Life Companies Community Grants Program

The Baltimore Life Companies Community Grants Program supports a wide range of nonprofit organizations that benefit the communities in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, DC, where the company has offices. The program provides grants of $500 to fund community-based organizations addressing family, safety, and community enhancement issues. Examples of eligible programs include child safety education, community cleanup campaigns, neighborhood watch activities, etc. Priority is given to ambitious organizations that already have “volunteer power” in place, but need financial support to implement their specific home-grown projects. Applications must be returned to local Baltimore Life agencies by October 15, 2018. Visit the company’s website to download the grant guidelines and application form.

Funds for Animal Welfare Organizations in Northern States
ASPCA Northern Tier Shelter Initiative Grants

The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) is providing grant funding to nonprofit shelter organizations, tribal authorities, and government agencies in Alaska, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Washington, and Wisconsin that care for homeless animals and advance animal welfare in those states. Through the Northern Tier Shelter Initiative Grants program, proposals will be considered to support capacity-building activities that enhance a group’s effectiveness in carrying out its animal welfare mission. Grants range between $5,000 and $20,000 each. Applications may be submitted at any time and will be reviewed and approved on a rolling basis until grant funds are fully expended. Grants Aid School Libraries Affected by Natural Disasters
American Association of School Librarians: Beyond Words: The Dollar General School Library Relief Fund

Beyond Words: The Dollar General School Library Relief Fund, administered by the American Association of School Librarians (AASL), supports public school libraries in the communities served by Dollar General. The Fund provides grants of up to $20,000 to pre-K-12 public schools whose school library programs have been affected by a natural disaster, fire, or an act of terrorism. Schools that have absorbed a significant number of displaced/evacuee students are also eligible to apply. Grants are intended to help replace or supplement books, media, or library equipment. Eligible applicants must be located within 20 miles of a Dollar General store, distribution center, or corporate office. Grant applications are accepted on an ongoing basis. Support for Underserved Youth Programs in North Carolina
Carolina Hurricanes Foundation: Game Changer Grants

The Carolina Hurricanes Foundation supports nonprofit organizations in North Carolina that share the Foundation’s focus on children’s health and education, with a emphasis on impacting underserved populations. The Foundation’s Game Changer Grants are intended to help organizations make a positive impact in the community through grassroots action. Grants are awarded at one of three levels of funding: $5,000, $10,000, or $15,000. Applying organizations must have been in operation for three or more years. Department of Commerce

The Marine Debris Removal program supports the development and implementation of locally-driven marine debris prevention, assessment, and removal projects that benefit coastal habitat, waterways, and NOAA trust resources. The application deadline is October 29, 2018.

Small Museums Supported
Institute of Museum and Library Services

Inspire! Grants for Small Museums support projects addressing lifelong learning, community anchors and catalysts, and collections stewardship and public access. The application deadline is November 1, 2018.
