Seed Grants Foster Social Change Worldwide
The Pollination Project
The Pollination Project supports social change agents worldwide who seek to spread compassion in their communities and in the world for the benefit of all. Pollination Project Seed Grants support passionate, committed people with a social change vision. Grants of up to $1,000 fund projects in their early stage of development and where a small amount of money will go a very long way. Funding areas include animal rights and welfare, economic empowerment, environmental sustainability, health and wellness, human rights and dignity, kindness and generosity, leadership development, schools and education, and youth. Individuals and community groups are eligible to apply; applicants do not need to be a registered or established organization. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Funding Promotes Equity and Accountability
Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust: Power and Accountability Program
The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust is a Quaker trust which supports people who address the root causes of conflict and injustice. Through its Power and Accountability program, the Trust seeks to enable people to create a world in which power is more equally shared, and in which powerful institutions are responsive and accountable to wider society and aligned with the long-term public interest. Funding priorities include strengthening corporate accountability, encouraging responsible media, and strengthening democratic accountability. Grants are provided for national work in the UK, or elsewhere in the EU for work at a pan-European level, as well as for initiatives aimed at increasing the accountability of the UK government and other UK bodies for the impact of the policies and practices that they pursue within global institutions. Support for Sustainable Development Education in Southeastern Europe
Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe
The Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) is an international organization with a mission to assist in addressing environmental issues. The REC and the Australian Development Agency have issued a call for proposals for the SEEDLING Small Grants Programme. The goal of this call is to increase awareness of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Southeastern Europe among pupils and teachers in secondary and vocational schools and build their capacities in green jobs creation through practical examples. Grants of up to 7,000 euros are provided to civil society organizations in Southeastern Europe (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia) active in the area of education and sustainable development, working in partnership with secondary and vocational schools in the region. Animal Welfare Initiatives Supported
Marchig Animal Welfare Trust
The Marchig Animal Welfare Trust aims to protect animals and to promote and encourage practical work in preventing animal cruelty and the relief of animal suffering. The Trust supports initiatives designed to improve animal welfare, promote alternative methods to animal experimentation, and encourage practical work in alleviating suffering and preventing cruelty to animals. Funded initiatives have included mobile spay/neuter clinics, the search for alternatives to the use of animals in research, poster campaigns, anti-poaching programs, veterinary hospitals, clinics, animal sanctuaries, and smaller animal welfare groups. There are no restrictions on the geographical area of funded work (with the exception of the U.S. and Canada). Applications are accepted throughout the year. Grants Enhance International Understanding of Japan
Toshiba International Foundation
The Toshiba International Foundation strives to contribute to enhanced international understanding of Japan. The Foundation supports projects that promote understanding of Japan in the following categories: symposia and seminars, cultural programs, research and studies, and programs that train students who will promote international understanding of Japan. Priority is given to projects outside of Japan. Nonprofit organizations with a bank account in their officially registered name are eligible to apply. The application deadline is November 30, 2017. Young Jewish Humanitarians Honored
Charles Bronfman Prize
The Charles Bronfman Prize recognizes young humanitarians whose work is inspired by their Jewish values and is of universal benefit to all people. The goal of the Prize is to recognize dynamic leaders whose innovation and impact serve as inspiration for the next generations. Nominations are accepted in all areas of humanitarian endeavor across a broad spectrum of disciplines. Past recipients have distinguished themselves through their work in the environment, genetics, humanitarian relief, human rights, medical education, public education, the economy, and storytelling to convey values across cultures. Jewish individuals and teams under the age of 50 are eligible to be nominated. (Self-nominations are not accepted.) A cash award of $100,000 is provided. The nomination deadline is January 12, 2018. Support for Programs Benefiting People with HIV in Selected Countries
Elton John AIDS Foundation London: Robert Key Memorial Fund
The Elton John AIDS Foundation London funds front line programs that help to alleviate the pain—whether physical, emotional, or financial—of those living with, affected by, or at risk of HIV/AIDS. The Foundation’s Robert Key Memorial Fund provides grants of up to £10,000 per year to grassroots initiatives in selected countries that deliver tangible, immediate benefits to people living with HIV. Grants support small-scale interventions or projects working with people living with HIV, projects that fight stigma and discrimination, and immediate services such as urgent care or medical interventions for people living with HIV. Prize Honors European Journalism
European Press Prize
The European Press Prize salutes and encourages the highest achievements in European journalism. Entries for the Prize are accepted in four categories: The Investigative Reporting Award is presented for discovering and revealing facts that expose hidden news to the public. The Distinguished Reporting Award is given for exceptional reporting, or telling a story in the best possible way. The Opinion Award is for a remarkable textual or visual interpretation of the world we live in. Finally, the Innovation Award is granted for challenging the current boundaries of journalism with a new idea or method. Not open to application is The Special Award, presented by the judges for excellent journalism to one striking entry that defies categories and disciplines. A cash award of 10,000 euros is presented in each category, to be spent wherever possible on a personal project that may, in turn, enrich the practice of journalism. The AstraZeneca Canada Community Investment Program seeks to improve the health and quality of life for Canadians. Support for Canadian Crime Prevention and Safety Initiatives
Allstate Foundation of Canada
The Allstate Foundation of Canada supports Canadian organizations that are involved in a variety of activities or educational initiatives around crime prevention, road safety, and home safety. The Foundation supports research and special projects, as well as providing operating funds, building funds, emergency funds, deficit financing, equipment funds, matching funds, and seed money. Nonprofit or charitable organizations with a Canadian Charitable Registration Number/Business Number are eligible to apply. Applications are accepted throughout the year. School Nutrition Projects in Ontario and Quebec Funded
Green Apple School Program
The Green Apple School Program, an initiative of Metro grocery stores, aims to encourage students to adopt healthy eating habits and increase their fruit and vegetable consumption. The Program awards $1,000 grants to elementary and secondary schools in Ontario and Quebec for projects that motivate young people to develop healthy eating habits. Examples of project ideas include preparing healthy lunches for students, facilitating cooking sessions, publishing a healthy recipe cookbook, hiring a nutritionist to speak to students, and designing a healthy menu for the school cafeteria. Supported schools must be located within a 30 kilometer radius from a Metro, Food Basics, or Super C store. The application deadline for Ontario schools is December 31, 2017; Quebec schools must apply by March 30, 2018. Wildlife Initiatives in New Brunswick Supported
New Brunswick Wildlife Trust Fund
The New Brunswick Wildlife Trust Fund (NBWTF) aims to further wildlife conservation in the province of New Brunswick. The NBWTF supports a range of programs for the enhancement of New Brunswick’s wildlife, fish, and their habitats. Program areas include fisheries development, wildlife development, trapping, biodiversity conservation, and conservation education. The application deadlines are May 1 and December 1, annually. Support for Grassroots Groups in Latin America and Selected Caribbean Countries
Inter-American Foundation
The Inter-American Foundation, an independent U.S. government agency, was created by Congress to channel development assistance directly to the organized poor in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Foundation funds the self-help efforts of grassroots groups in Latin America and the Caribbean countries of Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica to improve living conditions of the disadvantaged and the excluded, to enhance capacity for decision-making and self-governance, and to develop partnerships with the public sector, business, and civil society. Grants ranging from $25,000 to $400,000 are provided. Proposals may be submitted throughout the year in Spanish, Portuguese, English, French, or Haitian Creole.
Funds to Host Visiting Foreign Journalists in the U.S.
Department of State
The International Media Reporting Program aims to engage directly with foreign media to advance U.S. foreign policy priorities by providing visiting foreign journalists with direct access to authoritative sources of information about U.S. foreign policy through informational and policy briefings, as well as local and national reporting tours. The application deadline is November 30, 2017.

Environmental Grants Benefit Canadian Municipalities
Federation of Canadian Municipalities: Green Municipal Fund
The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is the national voice of municipal government. Through the Green Municipal Fund, FCM supports initiatives that demonstrate an innovative solution or approach to a municipal environmental issue, and that can generate new lessons and models for Canadian municipalities. Focus areas consist of sustainable neighborhood and brownfields action plans, energy efficiency and recovery, transportation and fuel efficiency, water quality and conservation, waste management and diversion, and brownfields. The Fund supports municipal governments working in partnership with municipally and non-municipally owned organizations, private-sector companies, nonprofit companies, non-governmental organizations, and other types of organizations. The deadline to submit an Initial Review Form for capital projects is March 1, 2018; applications for plans, feasibility studies, and pilot projects for energy, transportation, waste, and water are accepted year round.

Alberta Film, a part of the Government of Alberta, supports the growth, sustainability, competitiveness, and business attraction of Alberta's screen-based production industry. Screen-Based Production Grants fund the creation of film and television production in Alberta. The upcoming deadline to submit an application is November 30, 2017.
