Field of Vision and Topic Studios have created a $250,000 fund to provide grants for freelancers working in the documentary field. The Fund will distribute unrestricted grants of up to $2,000 to support personal financial needs during the COVID-19 pandemic to freelancers who have experienced hardship from loss of income or opportunity as a result of the pandemic. Artists internationally are eligible, with priority given to countries and regions of which there isn’t government freelance assistance that applicants may be eligible for.

In partnership with the Facebook Journalism Project, ICFJ will provide financial support to individual journalists and freelancers in Algeria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Sudan, and Yemen to assist them in their COVID-19 reporting. Selected journalists will receive a $2,500 grant to produce stories related to COVID-19 and its effects. They will also receive a mentor to help them develop their stories for a period of two months.The ICFJ is also offering the ICFJ-Facebook Training & Reporting Grants Program: Reporting on Refugee Communities Amidst a Pandemic to journalists across the Middle East and North Africa to produce high-quality and engaging stories that shine a light on life in refugee camps at this time of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Coronavirus Response Fund provides resources to help organizations in the United States and the Middle East and North Africa conduct virtual exchange programs to engage young people and educators affected by the pandemic. Virtual exchange efforts include programs that use online technology to connect individuals and small groups between countries, are based on a curriculum or activity plan, involve qualified facilitators (such as educators or others), and involve sustained communication and collaboration synchronously (in real-time) or asynchronously over a period of time. Activities must be conducted in the United States and in one or more of the following countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, the Palestinian Territories, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen. Programs involving refugees from these countries who are currently in countries not listed are also eligible.

These fellowships will support research projects scholars in the social sciences and related fields that are focused on two key areas: 1.) advancing scholarly research on the role of social media in elections and democracy, with an emphasis on the 2020 US elections; and 2.) expanding best practices and methods for accessing and analyzing relevant data that can inform our understanding of the impact of social media on democracy. This grant opportunity’s primary emphasis is related to social media and the 2020 elections, as described above; however applications that investigate the impact of the coronavirus pandemic as it intersects with the core themes outlined above are particularly encouraged. In response to worrying trends regarding the impact of COVID19 on the Amazon region, the Amazon Rainforest Journalism Fund (RJF) and the Pulitzer Center have opened a call for grant applications called "Amazon Rainforest Journalism Fund and COVID-19". Journalists, editors and independent media organizations are invited to submit a proposal for a digital, collaborative news-project that will shed light on the intersection of COVID19, deforestation, and other critical issues in the region. Applicants can be of any nationality but should be based in the Amazon region. Teams should involve local or Indigenous, quilombola, or ribeirinho communicators and journalists who may be isolated in their communities.

With funding from the Government of Canada’s Emergency Community Support Fund, the Canadian Red Cross is making support available to community organizations across the country, as they deliver services to those who are most vulnerable to the health, social, and economic impacts of COVID-19. Nonprofit organizations may apply for grants to assist in the following areas: to respond to increased demand for vital goods and services as a result of COVID-19; to adapt or realign existing service delivery and programming to a COVID-19 reality; to deliver new vital services or programming as a result of new needs or losses arising as a result of COVID-19; to recruit, engage, and support volunteers to deliver services required to respond to COVID-19; and to support efforts to increase community awareness, information, and education related to COVID-19. The Propeller Impact Fund 2020 will focus on providing short-term financial support to artists who are impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The COVID-19 Detect and Protect Challenge, an initiative of the United Nations Development Programme in partnership with Hackster.io, is calling on Hackster's global community to support developing countries through the sharing and transfer of open source technology.
