ProLiteracy National Book Fund

ProLiteracy works to change lives and communities through the power of literacy in the belief that a safer, stronger, and more sustainable society starts with an educated adult population.

The National Book Fund (NBF), a program of ProLiteracy, provides adult literacy and basic education programs with New Readers Press books and educational materials to help teach adults to read.

NBF supports organizations providing service in the following areas:

  • basic literacy;
  • adult education;
  • English language instruction;
  • GED (general educational development) and HSE (high school equivalency) preparation; and,
  • family literacy.

The NBF does not fund requests to provide books for lending libraries or other resource centers where NBF materials are not directly linked to use with students receiving literacy instruction or the enhancement of an adult literacy initiative. Also, programs that request NBF materials to use strictly as free distribution items are not funded.

Note: New Readers Press, the publishing division of ProLiteracy, provides the books and materials distributed through the NBF.
