Mission Statement

If your organization doesn't have a mission statement, now is a good time to develop one.

Every mission statement should answer these questions:

  1. What does your organization do?
  2. Who does your organization serve?
  3. What need does your organization fulfill?
  4. How does your organization fulfill this need?
  5. Why does your organization exist?

Answering these five questions will help you develop a solid mission statement.

You don't want the mission statement to be very long. It should be a brief, clear statement about what it is that you do and why you exist.

Always date stamp the mission statement every time your Board of Directors reviews it. Revisit it each year at your annual meeting and reflect that on the date stamp even if no changes have been made.
