DIARY OF A SOCIAL MEDIA ROOKIE

Your social media followers want to see more than repetitive, self-promotional posts. As I briefly outlined before, you can keep your social media followers engaged by also sharing relevant news stories, helpful blog posts, and useful information.

But how does one find all these things, and more importantly, find the time to find them? There are quick and easy ways to get news and information that will not only keep you informed, but can also be used to enhance your social channels.

News Feeds

Feedly is a powerful discovery tool that helps filter the huge amount of information available online, and organizes it in one spot. You can follow blogs or news sites you regularly read, as well as discover new sources based on topic or industry. You can also set up news alerts, follow Twitter feeds, and organize your content. This blog post helps explain how to get started.

The Solutions Story Tracker is a searchable database dedicated to journalism that focuses on solutions to the world's most pressing social problems. You can search based on criteria like Date, Location, Success Factors, Issue Areas, and more. You can also browse the main issues they track, such as Arts & Culture, Environment, Religion, and Science. The articles are carefully selected to include quality journalism that doesn’t just point out problems, but also searches for solutions.
