W.K. Kellogg Foundation

Application deadline: None
Geographic scope: Nationally throughout the U.S., with a focus on Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, and New Orleans, and selected communities in Haiti and Mexico
Description: The W.K. Kellogg Foundation is committed to ensuring all children, families, and communities—regardless of race or income—have opportunities to reach their full potential. Support is provided nationally throughout the U.S., though up to two-thirds of grantmaking is focused on the priority places of Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico, and New Orleans in the U.S.; Chiapas and the Yucatán Peninsula in Mexico; and Central and South Haiti. The Foundation’s priorities are 1) thriving children, including supporting a healthy start and quality learning experiences for all children; 2) working families, with a focus on efforts to help families obtain stable, high-quality jobs; and 3) equitable communities, including advancing racial equity and racial healing, engaging communities in solving their own problems, and developing leaders capable of guiding change. Off-Road Vehicle Safety and Access Efforts Funded

Polaris TRAILS GRANTS Program

Application deadline: March 1 and September 1, annually
Geographic scope: United States and Canada
Grant amount: Up to $10,000
Description: The Polaris TRAILS GRANTS Program supports national, state, and local organizations in the United States and Canada to ensure the future of off-road vehicle and snowmobile riding. Funding is available to promote safe and responsible riding, support trail preservation and creation, and help protect the environment and natural resources that are a part of the off-road trail systems. Organizations can apply for either monetary or product donations of up to $10,000 annually. Eligible applicants must be a 501(c)(3), 501(c)(7), governmental, or nonprofit organization. (Fire, rescue, or law enforcement organizations are not eligible.)

Program Facilitates Youth Leadership Development and Service Learning

National Youth Leadership Council: Youth as Solutions

Application deadline: September 13, 2024
Grant amount: Teams participate in a guided service-learning program and are eligible to receive funding (between $250-$1,000) to implement their project and service activities.
Description: Youth as Solutions (YaS), a program of the National Youth Leadership Council (NYLC), seeks to create a generation of citizens who are passionate about making a positive impact in their schools and communities. YaS is a guided youth leadership development program where teams of middle and high school students follow NYLC's guided service-learning process to design a solution that meets a need in their community in one of the following areas: education equity, community health, environmental justice, or civics and democracy. One adult leader and two primary youth leaders receive training and support from NYLC to lead their broader youth team in taking collective action. Throughout the school year, teams receive professional development for the adult mentor, youth leadership skill development, funding to implement the project and service activities, and materials, templates, trainings, and support to level up the team’s service-learning experience. Teams consisting of at least two youth in grades six to 12 and an adult mentor from a public school, school district, government entity, or nonprofit are eligible to apply.

Grants Strengthen Grassroots Activist Projects

A.J. Muste Foundation for Peace + Justice: Social Justice Fund

Application deadline: October 21, 2024
Grant amount: Up to $10,000
Description: The A.J. Muste Foundation for Peace + Justice’s Social Justice Fund provides grants for grassroots activist projects in the U.S., giving priority to those with small budgets and little access to more mainstream funding sources. The Foundation is especially interested in funding efforts to end the violence of borders and the criminalization of immigrants; abolish prisons and dismantle and redefine systems of policing and criminal justice; confront institutionalized violence against racial, ethnic, gender-based, and LGBTQ communities; put an end to economic exploitation, class stratification, and systemic poverty; and stop the war machine, end state-sponsored terrorism, and expose the dangers of nuclear power. Priority is given to direct grassroots activism and organizing; groups with diverse, representative, and democratic leadership structures; and groups that need additional support to carry out a project or build capacity.

Funding Advances Healthy Aging Partnerships in 14 States

CVS Health Foundation: Focus on Healthy Aging

Application deadline: August 16, 2024
Geographic scope: AZ, CA, FL, GA, IL, KY, MI, MO, NJ, NY, NC, OH, PA, and TX
Grant amount: $1,000,000 disbursed over five years
Description: The CVS Health Foundation’s new Focus on Healthy Aging initiative, launching in up to five sites, aims to improve health outcomes for people over 60. Support will be provided to established multi-sector, community-based partnerships working to strengthen systems of care at the local level in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas. City- or county-level partnerships will be awarded $1,000,000 to implement strategies that improve health outcomes for older adults (60+), including individuals who are at the most significant risk of experiencing negative brain, heart, and mental health outcomes. All funding recipients must work towards systems of care that simplify the delivery of, and navigation to, healthcare and social care for older adults with brain, heart, and mental health conditions. In addition, applicants must focus on at least one of the following outcomes: 1) increased early detection, diagnosis, and management of brain, heart, or mental health conditions, or 2) improved mental and physical health of unpaid caregivers.

Geographic scope: Connecticut and Pennsylvania
Description: The Neag Foundation provides support primarily in Pennsylvania and Connecticut to make a positive impact and help people live healthier, happier, and more productive lives. Grants support organizations that provide direct services in the areas of education, healthcare, and arts and humanities. The Foundation seeks to positively impact the lives of families and children. Types of support include project, general operating, and capacity building support. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations are eligible to apply.

Oral Health Programs Supported in Wisconsin

Wisconsin Dental Association Foundation

Application deadline: September 15, 2024
Geographic scope: Wisconsin
Grant amount: $1,000 to $7,500
Description: The Wisconsin Dental Association Foundation’s Annual Grant Program supports community-based, nonprofit oral health promotion programs that improve oral health for low-income Wisconsin residents. Examples of supported activities include dental supplies, equipment, and other operating expenses for low-income dental clinics; dental health education conducted at schools, health fairs, and social agencies via mobile dental clinics or outreach programs; dental health education programs in conjunction with preventive programs such as fluoride and dental sealant application programs; and other philanthropic endeavors relating to dentistry in Wisconsin. Applicants must be 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations or government agencies headquartered in Wisconsin.

Communication Access for People With Disabilities Funded in California

Ability Central: Communication Access Grants

Application deadline: August 16, 2024, is the last day to schedule an applicant call. Applications are due September 13, 2024.
Geographic scope: California
Description: Ability Central makes grants to nonprofit organizations headquartered in California to improve communication and information access for people who are deaf, disabled, and neurodivergent. The 2025 Communication Access Grants funding cycle will provide support for projects focused on 1) leadership and career development for people with communication disabilities and 2) training projects for healthcare professionals to increase accessibility and inclusion for people with communication disabilities. Interested applicants must begin the application process by taking the eligibility quiz. Ability Central will then host calls with those who pass the quiz. After speaking with the Ability Central grants team, those who meet the requirements will be given access to the full application.

Program Preserves Equal Rights History

National Park Service

Application deadline: August 20, 2024
Description: The goal of the History of Equal Rights Grant Program (HER) is to preserve sites related to the struggle of all Americans to achieve equal rights. HER grants fund a broad range of preservation projects for historic sites, including architectural services, historic structure reports, preservation plans, and physical preservation of structures. HER grants are not limited to any specific group and are intended to include the broadest possible interpretation of sites associated with efforts to achieve equal rights.

Eviction Legal Aid Supported

Department of Housing and Urban Development

Application deadline: August 20, 2024
Description: The Eviction Protection Grant Program funds nonprofit organizations and government entities to provide no-cost legal assistance to low-income tenants at risk or subject to eviction. Additionally, projects will expand the evidence base around eviction prevention and diversion programming by reporting information about tenants served, legal assistance services provided, outcomes achieved and milestones reached, and collaborative activities.
