Support Enhances Access to Parks in the U.S., Canada, and Europe

Hydro Flask: Parks for All

Application deadline: September 8, 2023, for the U.S. and Canada, and September 22, 2023, for Europe
Geographic scope: United States, Canada, and Europe
Grant amount: $10,000 to $50,000, depending on the project’s geographic scope
Description: Hydro Flask’s Parks for All program supports nonprofit organizations focused on building, maintaining, restoring, and providing more equitable access to parks. For 2024, grants of $30,000 to $50,000 will be provided for nationally-focused projects covering five or more U.S. states, while grants of $10,000 to $15,000 are available for regional projects in all Canadian provinces and the U.S. states of Arizona, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Nevada, Oklahoma, South Dakota, and Washington D.C. (Grants of $10,000 to $25,000 support projects in selected European countries.) Areas of interest include the creation of new parks or trails, from planning to construction; park maintenance and restoration; park access and education, with a focus on historically marginalized communities; and single use plastics reduction. Projects must be focused on supporting people’s connection with the outdoors for recreation and health benefits. Visit the grant portal eligibility quiz to begin the application process.

Grants Facilitate International Performances by U.S. Artists

Mid Atlantic Arts: USArtists International

Application deadlines: September 29, 2023, and March 27, 2024
Grant amount: Up to $15,000
Description: USArtists International, a program of Mid Atlantic Arts, supports in-person and virtual performances by American artists at engagements at international festivals and global presenting arts marketplaces outside of the United States. Funding is provided to individuals and ensembles across all performing arts practices and disciplines. The program is designed to encourage the presence of U.S. performing artists on international stages and in the global arts community; support engagements that develop and expand both the careers and artistic goals of U.S. performers by providing connections with presenters, curators, and fellow artists; and promote justice in the arts community by elevating the diverse voices contributing to the vibrant array of creative expression in the United States. Eligible applicants must be a dance, music, or theater ensemble or individual artist that works at a professional level and currently resides in the United States or its territories.

Programs Serving Individuals With Autism Supported

Autism Speaks Local Impact Grant

Application deadline: Applications will be accepted from September 5 to October 6, 2023.
Description: Autism Speaks’ Local Impact Grant program supports community programs throughout the United States that provide people with autism with fulfilling social and educational experiences. Support is provided within the following categories of service delivery: education and training, recreation and community activities, summer camp scholarships, sensory equipment and supportive technology, and young adult and adult services. Programs should reach a wide age range of individuals on the spectrum and provide a measurable impact on the lives of those who participate and their families.

Music Innovation and STEAM Education Programs Funded

Les Paul Foundation

Application deadlines: January 15 and September 15, annually
Grant amount: First time grants typically are $1,500 to $2,000.
Description: The Les Paul Foundation inspires innovative and creative thinking by sharing the legacy of Les Paul through support of music education, recording, innovation, and medical research related to hearing. Funding consideration is given to programs and projects that encourage innovation in music production and performance and to innovative STEM or STEAM programs for students and others in challenging situations. Proposals for medical research related to curing tinnitus and other hearing impairment issues are considered. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and schools in the United States are eligible to apply.

Grants Strengthen Climate Adaptation Planning in California

California Resilience Challenge

Application deadline: September 29, 2023
Geographic scope: California
Grant amount: Generally $100,000 to $200,000
Description: The California Resilience Challenge is a statewide initiative to support innovative climate adaptation planning projects that strengthen local resilience to wildfire, drought, flood, and extreme heat events in under-resourced communities in California. Support is provided for planning projects that are targeted at improving local or regional resilience to drought; flooding, including from sea level rise; extreme heat and increasing frequency of hot days; and wildfire. Preference is given to projects that will lead to the implementation of resiliency infrastructure. California-based non-government organizations, including community-based organizations, that represent under-resourced communities are eligible to apply, as are California Native American tribes. Public entities that represent under-resourced communities may apply in partnership with a non-governmental organization.

Funding Benefits Maine Communities

Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation

Application deadline: The upcoming deadline is October 15, 2023.
Geographic scope: Maine
Grant amount: $500 to $50,000
Description: The Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation provides support for Maine communities. The Foundation is interested in projects that address the underlying causes of social and environmental problems, as well as those that address the consequences, and has a strong interest in literacy, community services, and the arts. Preference is given to organizations and projects that will affect or serve the most members of a community.

Legal Aid for Low-Income Illinois Residents Supported

Lawyers Trust Fund of Illinois

Application deadline: September 18, 2023
Geographic scope: Illinois
Grant amount: The minimum grant amount is $25,000.
Description: The Lawyers Trust Fund of Illinois (LTF) makes grants to nonprofit organizations that provide free civil legal aid to low-income Illinois residents. Supported organizations provide a “legal safety net” for people who cannot afford to hire a lawyer, but face serious problems related to issues such as domestic violence, child custody, eviction, foreclosure, elder abuse, access to medical care, and other critical needs. Eligible applicants must be an Illinois-based nonprofit organization, serve Illinois residents who do not have resources to obtain private counsel, provide legal services without charge to the client, and employ at least one paid, full-time equivalent staff attorney.

Foundation for the Mid South

Description: The Foundation for the Mid South brings together the public and private sectors and focuses their resources on increasing social and economic opportunity in Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. The Foundation provides support for solutions that promote education, with a focus on improving high school graduation rates, college preparedness, and life outcomes of students; physical and mental health, with a focus on healthy behaviors to reduce obesity, mental health awareness and access, and access to healthcare resources; financial security, with a focus on programs and information to enable residents to manage their finances effectively and grow their wealth; and community development, with a focus on community enrichment, economic development, and leadership development.

Funds Available for Clean Energy Programs

Department of Agriculture

Application deadline: September 29, 2023
Description: The Powering Affordable Clean Energy (PACE) program helps make clean, affordable, and reliable energy accessible to the people of rural America. The PACE program is available to eligible applicants that generate electricity for resale to residents in both rural and nonrural areas, with at least 50 percent of the population served by the proposed renewable energy project living in communities with populations of 20,000 or fewer. Eligible renewable energy projects include those that use wind, solar, hydropower, geothermal, or biomass, as well as renewable energy storage projects.

Program Supports Trauma-Affected Refugees

Department of Health and Human Services

Application deadline: October 2, 2023
Description: The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) invites eligible entities to submit competitive grant applications under the new Support for Trauma-Affected Refugees (STAR) Program. The goals of the STAR Program are the integration and successful achievement of sustained physical, social, emotional, and economic well-being of underserved refugees and other newcomers eligible for ORR services whose experience of trauma is impeding their ability to function effectively at home, school, work, or in social settings. Using STAR funds, recipients will provide eligible newcomers with holistic and integrated case management services, including health, psychological, and social adjustment services.
