Call Supports Sixties Scoop Survivors and Their Descendants

National Sixties Scoop Healing Foundation of Canada

Application deadline: May 10, 2024, for letters of intent; June 10, 2024, for applications
Description: The mission of the National Sixties Scoop Healing Foundation of Canada, established through the National Sixties Scoop Settlement, is to accompany Sixties Scoop survivors (Indigenous children that were removed from their families and communities) and their descendants along their healing journey by supporting cultural reclamation and reunification, holistic wellness services, advocacy, commemoration, and educational initiatives. Through the 2024 call for applications, the Foundation will support projects that invest in the health, healing, and wellness of Sixties Scoop survivors, their families, and descendants. Supported efforts may include, but are not limited to, projects and programs that 1) respond to the mental health, wellness, and healing needs of survivors and their families; 2) respond to urgent basic needs of survivors, their families, and descendants; 3) build the capacity of an organization to deliver programs to Sixties Scoop survivors, their families, and descendants; 4) promote reunification, cultural connection, and transmission of knowledge; 5) provide training; and 6) promote truth telling and storytelling. Indigenous-led registered charities and qualified donees are eligible to apply. Non-qualified donees may indirectly apply by securing a fiscal sponsorship from a qualified donee.

Canon Canada Donations and Sponsorships Program

Application deadline: None
Description: Canon Canada supports Canadian organizations by providing project support or prizes for their fundraising initiatives. The company’s areas of interest include the environment, including local and national initiatives; innovation, including digital imagery; healthcare and medical initiatives, including hospital fundraisers and health walks or runs; and arts and culture, including photography programs, education, museums, theaters, and art galleries. Eligible applicants include registered charities and nonprofit organizations based in and working in Canada. Brand sponsorships and product sponsorships are also available to Canada-based organizations and brands.

Grants Benefit Injured Individuals in the U.S. and Canada

High Fives Foundation

Application deadline: Applications will be accepted from May 1 to 31, 2024, for Cycle 2, and from August 1 to 31, 2024, for Cycle 3.
Geographic scope: Canada and the United States
Description: The mission of the High Fives Foundation is to create a universal shift in adventure sports that expands what is possible for those who have faced life-changing injuries. The Empowerment Fund awards grants to individuals in Canada and the United States who suffer a life-changing injury, including spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, amputation, or other mobility-limiting injuries. In Cycle 2 (May), applications will be accepted from those injured in outdoor adventure sports. Cycle 3 (August) applications are open to those injured in outdoor adventure sports, wounded veterans pursuing outdoor adventure sports, and those injured in inertia-based accidents who wish to pursue outdoor adventure sports. The Foundation defines outdoor adventure sports as including skiing, snowboarding, ski BASE, ski mountaineering, ice climbing, Nordic skiing, kayaking, mountain biking, rock climbing, winged sports, hiking/trekking, trail running, dirt biking, motocross, etc. Grants are paid to service providers in specific funding categories: adaptive sports equipment, healing network, medical equipment, programs, living expenses, and emergency care and injury expenses.

Support Bolsters Health Equity for Canadian Women

Shoppers Foundation for Women's Health

Grant amount: Up to $100,000
Description: The Shoppers Foundation for Women’s Health is Shoppers Drug Mart's commitment to fostering health equity for all women in Canada. Recognizing that the term “women’s health” is understood in a variety of ways, the Foundation's work goes beyond the sex and gender binary, welcoming the experiences of all women and gender-diverse people. The Foundation’s Community Grants Program funds local charitable programs and innovation initiatives aimed at improving access to equitable and inclusive care for all women in Canada. Grants are provided to Canadian registered charities working toward health equity by increasing access to care and support that promotes health and well-being, raising awareness about women’s unique health needs, and providing support for critical women’s health research. Support is provided for new and existing initiatives, with priority given to initiatives serving vulnerable women.

Description: The Fondation Mirella et Lino Saputo (Mirella and Lino Saputo Foundation) aims to promote an inclusive and resilient society in Quebec. The Foundation supports organizations providing services to elderly people, individuals with disabilities, and people from immigrant backgrounds. Types of support consist of project support, including funding to start a new project or scale an existing one; organizational capacity building; equipment for organizations serving individuals with disabilities; and housing projects for seniors or individuals with disabilities. Multi-year grants may be available. (Information is only available in French on the Foundation’s website.)

HCTF Education: LEAP Grants

Geographic scope: British Columbia
Grant amount: Up to $5,000
Description: HCTF Education, an initiative of the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, offers education grants to support opportunities for youth in British Columbia to learn, experience, and connect to the natural world. Leadership Environmental Action Project (LEAP) Grants are for BC middle and high schools to support student learning and experiences in conservation and stewardship of British Columbia’s biodiversity. LEAP Grants fund opportunities for students to engage in place-based environmental projects through science, environmental science, specialty science courses, and other activities that will support student environmental field skills and connections to real-world science and enable students to connect with BC's biodiversity and ecosystems.

Workforce Development Initiatives Funded in Toronto

Toronto's Workforce Funder Collaborative

Application deadline: The remaining 2024 deadlines are May 15, August 15, and November 15.
Geographic scope: Greater Toronto Area
Grant amount: Up to $50,000 for planning grants and up to $250,000 for implementation grants
Description: Toronto's Workforce Funder Collaborative, a group of philanthropic organizations, seeks to strengthen workforce development across the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario. The Funder Collaborative supports organizations that want to address deep-rooted, systemic workforce development problems, and seeks to invest in organizations that are interested in deep and sustained engagement with the Collaborative to create or enhance existing programs that lead to systems change and include principles of equity, collaboration, innovation, and learning. The 2024 call for proposals offers the following types of support: 1) planning grants, for organizations that are interested in exploring a systems change question and how it affects the work they are doing and their ecosystem; and 2) implementation grants, for organizations that are interested in expanding their systems change work in workforce development. Eligible applicants include qualified and non-qualified donees located and working in the Greater Toronto Area.

TJX Canada: Find Your Stride

Description: Find Your Stride, a charitable initiative of TJX Canada (WINNERS, HomeSense, and Marshalls), is dedicated to helping vulnerable women access the skills and support they need so that they and their families can thrive in life. Funding is provided to registered charities and nonprofit organizations helping women gain skills and expand their knowledge, feel safe and secure with access to safe housing, and access the personal supports required for them to get ahead, such as wardrobe support and childcare. Eligible applicants include registered charities and nonprofit organizations that are located in or serve a population within 20 kilometers of a TJX store, distribution center, or office. In order to be eligible, organizations must have a public nondiscrimination policy and have been established for more than 12 months.

Description: The Local Journalism Initiative supports the creation of original civic journalism that covers the diverse needs of underserved communities across Canada. Funding is available to eligible Canadian media organizations to hire journalists or pay freelance journalists to produce civic journalism for underserved communities. Eligible applicants include press agencies, private news organizations, and nonprofit news organizations. Organizations must operate in the following fields: written press, community radio, community television, and online news services.
