Grants Aim to Advance Understanding of Democracy, Race, and Religion
Henry Luce Foundation: Religion and Theology Program
Through the Advancing Public Knowledge on Democracy, Race, and Religion in America grants, the Henry Luce Foundation's Religion and Theology Program seeks new ideas for projects that will deepen public understanding of—and promote more productive public discussions about—democracy, race, and religion in the United States. The Foundation aims to support collaborative and experimental initiatives that seek to deepen understanding of religion's complex and contested place in public life, to envision and cultivate new religious and democratic possibilities, and to promote more curious and more generous public conversations. Submissions are encouraged from a wide range of knowledge organizations, including community arts organizations, media outlets, museums, colleges and universities, independent seminaries, and other organizations committed to envisioning and building a more open, democratic, and equitable world through critical and creative engagement with religion and communities of faith. Grants ranging from $200,000 to $400,000 will typically fund work that can be completed in less than five years. Concept notes are due February 15, 2023. Visit the Foundation's website to read more about the program and to access the online application portal.

How to Include Your Participants in Program Design
Funders often ask how your organization includes program participants in the development, design, or implementation of your programs. There's only one way to answer this question: You must actually engage your participants! Discussing how to set up and run your programs with your target population may seem like just an additional step to get funded. But it can actually save you time and resources in the long run because it helps you create meaningful programs that get to the root cause of people's needs. During this TargetED, Alice Ruhnke will show you how to solicit input from those you serve (or plan to serve) so that your programs are more impactful. The webinar will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023.
