Programs Keeping Pets and Domestic Violence Survivors Together Funded

RedRover Safe Housing Grants

Application deadline: The remaining deadlines for 2024 are June 1 and September 1.
Grant amount: Up to $60,000
Description: RedRover’s Safe Housing Grants provide support to nonprofit domestic violence and animal organizations across the United States to build pet programs that help survivors of domestic violence by allowing pets and people to escape abuse together. Funding priority is given to applications from domestic violence shelters that are starting new pet programs to house animals at the domestic violence shelter. If additional funding is available, other application types will be considered, including renovating spaces dedicated to housing survivor’s pets, foster programs to care for survivor’s pets, temporary boarding for survivor’s pets, or a combination of services that will best serve the community. Applicants must be either an established nonprofit domestic violence organization or an established nonprofit animal organization interested in expanding their services to help domestic violence survivors keep their pets. Domestic violence organization applicants must form a partnership with at least one animal organization with experience housing animals, and animal organization applicants must form a partnership with at least one domestic violence organization.

Grants Promote K-12 Education Projects Addressing the Legacy of Slavery

The 1619 Project Education Impact Grants

Application deadline: April 15, 2024
Geographic scope: United States, including U.S. territories
Grant amount: $1,000 to $5,000
Description: The 1619 Project illuminates the legacy of slavery in the contemporary United States, and highlights the contributions of Black Americans to every aspect of American society. The 1619 Project Education Impact Grants, an initiative of the Pulitzer Center (an official education partner of The 1619 Project), provide support to educational professionals working with students and educators in K-12 learning environments for projects that utilize at least one resource from The 1619 Project to 1) improve the awareness and critical thinking of students and educators about the legacies of slavery in the contemporary United States and the contributions of Black Americans to every aspect of U.S. society, and 2) equip students and educators to take action and make change that advances racial justice. The grants are meant for projects that go beyond the individual classroom level to engage large groups of learners on the school, district, or community level. Grants of $1,000 to $3,000 will fund individual schools, programs, or collaborative projects engaging multiple schools/programs, while grants of $3,000 to $5,000 will fund district, multi-site, or multi-organizational projects.

Support Seeks to Improve Healthcare Access in the U.S. and Canada

McKesson Foundation

Application deadline: Requests above $25,000 are accepted February 1 through April 30, annually. Funding requests up to $25,000 are accepted year-round.
Geographic scope: United States and Canada
Description: The mission of the McKesson Foundation is to remove barriers to quality healthcare across the United States and Canada, especially for vulnerable and underserved communities. Areas of interest include reducing the burden of cancer, including prevention, screening and treatment, and financial and logistical assistance; preparing tomorrow's healthcare workforce, with a focus on oncology professionals, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, and student engagement; and accelerating crisis response, including emergency preparedness, disaster relief, and medicine and food.

Awards Facilitate Creation of Innovative Art

Creative Capital Awards

Application deadline: April 4, 2024, for letters of inquiry
Grant amount: $15,000 to $50,000
Description: Creative Capital provides grants to support the creation of groundbreaking art by innovative and adventurous artists across the country. The Creative Capital Awards provide unrestricted project grants to artists for innovative and original new project proposals in visual arts, performing arts, film and moving image, technology, literature, multidisciplinary, and socially engaged forms. The goal is to fund individual artists creating conceptually, aesthetically, and formally challenging, risk-taking, and never-before-seen projects. In addition to funding, Creative Capital also provides scaffolding and support services for awardees. Artists that are U.S. citizens, permanent legal residents, or O-1 visa holders and are at least 25 years old with at least five years of professional artistic practice are eligible to apply.

Grants Enhance Family Literacy Programming in Florida

Florida Literacy Coalition: Florida Family Literacy Initiative

Application deadline: April 10, 2024
Geographic scope: Florida
Grant amount: Approximately eight grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded.
Description: The Florida Family Literacy Initiative, a program of the Florida Literacy Coalition with support from the Kislak Family Foundation, provides funding to help Florida schools and educational programs to establish or expand upon family literacy programs in their communities. Nonprofit organizations or government-based agencies (such as school districts and state or community colleges) that provide adult ESL or family literacy instruction via classes, small groups, or one-to-one tutoring are eligible to apply. For grant purposes, family literacy programs should include the following three components: 1) adult basic education and literacy or English as a second language skills training for parents or caregivers, 2) age-appropriate educational activities for children, and 3) interactive literacy activities between parents and children.

Description: The Auto Club Group Foundation provides support in the areas of traffic safety, driver education, and financial literacy programming throughout Auto Club Group’s 14-state footprint. To be considered for a grant, applicants must be a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, first responder, or local municipality providing services within Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.

Funding Advances Vermont Environmental Initiatives

Lintilhac Foundation

Application deadlines: March 15, June 15, September 15, and December 15, annually
Geographic scope: Vermont
Grant amount: $5,000 to $30,000
Description: The Lintilhac Foundation supports nonprofit organizations in working toward a stronger, healthier Vermont—one in which human and natural communities can all thrive together. The Foundation considers grant requests in the following areas: land conservation, especially projects that include recreational access to backcountry lands, and integrative land use planning; healthy food and farming, with a focus on regenerative organic agriculture and local access to healthy food; water quality, with a focus on advocacy and university-level scientific research; and energy, with focus on renewable energy policies. Funding is provided for both project support and general operating expenses.

Michigan State Bar Foundation: Administration of Justice Grants Program

Geographic scope: Michigan
Grant amount: Grants average $12,000 to $15,000.
Description: The Michigan State Bar Foundation provides leadership and grants to improve access for all to the justice system in Michigan. The Foundation’s Administration of Justice Grants Program funds innovative projects focused on the following priorities: educating Michigan children and adults about their legal rights and responsibilities and the American justice system; opportunities for conflict and dispute resolution; and supporting civil legal aid to the poor. The Foundation may also consider projects of extraordinary merit in other subject areas related to improvements in the administration of justice.

Description: The Research and Development program supports projects that address major challenges in preserving or providing access to humanities collections and resources. The program supports projects at all stages of development, from early planning and stand-alone studies to advanced implementation. Research and Development projects contribute to the evolving and expanding body of knowledge for heritage practitioners, and for that reason, outcomes may take many forms. Projects may produce any combination of laboratory datasets, guidelines for standards, open-access software tools, workflow and equipment specifications, widely used metadata schema, or other products.
