Art Projects Improving Street Safety Supported in the U.S., Canada, and Mexicostreet and houses

Bloomberg Philanthropies: Asphalt Art Initiative

Application deadline: June 12, 2023 
Geographic scope: United States, Canada, and Mexico 
Grant amount: Up to $25,000 
Description: Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Asphalt Art Initiative aims to help cities use art and community engagement to improve street safety and revitalize public space. The Initiative’s grant program funds visual art, typically painted murals, on roadways, pedestrian spaces, and public infrastructure in cities, with the following primary goals: improving street and pedestrian safety, revitalizing and activating underutilized public space, and promoting collaboration and civic engagement in local communities. In 2023, the Initiative will provide up to 20 grants of up to $25,000 each, as well as technical assistance, to cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

$20,000 Grants Aim to Change Vacant Lots Into Gardensbowl with food

KidsGardening: Lots of Compassion Grant

Application deadline: June 2, 2023 
Geographic scope: U.S. and U.S. territories 
Grant amount: Ten grants of $20,000 will be provided. 
Description: The Lots of Compassion Grant, a new program offered by Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day and KidsGardening, is designed to support local leaders looking to transform vacant lots into gardens to help grow compassion in their community. In 2023, ten grantees will receive $20,000 each to transform a vacant lot into a garden. Nonprofit organizations, school districts, universities, groups, religious organizations, and other tax-exempt organizations are eligible to apply.

Alkermes Inspiration Grants

Application deadline: June 1, 2023, at 6 PM ET 
Grant amount: Primarily $25,000 to $75,000 
Description: The 2023 Alkermes Inspiration Grants® program will provide up to a total of $500,000 to assist nonprofit organizations in the United States in their work to address challenges for people living with alcohol dependence, opioid dependence, schizophrenia, bipolar I disorder, melanoma, and ovarian cancer. Only 501(c)(3) charitable organizations in the U.S. that are not engaged in the practice of healthcare (which includes counseling services) are eligible to apply. Support Advances Projects Rethinking Agingpeople

NextFifty Initiative: Advancing Innovation in Aging

Application deadline: Applications will be accepted from May 15 to June 21, 2023. 
Description: NextFifty Initiative is dedicated to funding mission-driven initiatives that improve the lives of the older adult population and their caregivers. NextFifty’s Advancing Innovation in Aging grants invest in new and ongoing innovative projects throughout the U.S. that seek to rethink how people age and how people think about aging. NextFifty seeks to partner with organizations that are visionaries, community leaders, and educators to fuel ideas that drive improvements to the experience of aging and explore advancements in longevity within Colorado and across the nation. Grant requests must focus on the aging or the aging-disabled population age 50 and over, or the caregivers of these populations. Priority is given to projects that focus on historically marginalized communities and that demonstrate possibility for scalability and replicability. Applicants are encouraged to speak with a staff member prior to applying. (Advancing Equity in Aging grants, also available nationally, will open in June 2023. NextFifty offers additional grant programs focused on efforts in Colorado.)

Funds Enhance Environmental Education in the Chesapeake Bay Regionearth

Chesapeake Bay Trust: Youth Environmental Education Grant Program

Application deadline: June 29, 2023, at 4 PM 
Geographic scope: Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay watershed portions of D.C., Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia 
Grant amount: Up to $5,000 or $10,000, depending on the grant category 
Description: The Chesapeake Bay Trust seeks to engage and empower diverse groups to take actions that enrich natural resources and local communities of the Chesapeake Bay region. The Trust’s Youth Environmental Education Grant Program provides funds to schools, organizations, and agencies for youth environmental education opportunities and educator support in the state of Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay watershed portions of D.C., Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Support is provided for projects that involve youth and students investigating a local environmental issue, problem, or phenomenon through indoor and outdoor research culminating in developing solutions and taking action in their school or community. Applicants can request funds from one of the following tracks: 1) Out-of-School Outdoor Investigations for Youth Provided by Community-Based Organizations (up to $10,000); 2) Outdoor Classroom, School-Yard Habitat, or Community-Based Improvement Requests (up to $10,000); 3) Professional Development for Formal, Non-Formal, and Community Educators (up to $5,000); and 4) In-school Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences for Pre-K-12 Students (up to $5,000).

Planning for Historic Preservation Projects Supported in the Midwesthouse

Jeffris Family Foundation: Jeffris Heartland Fund

Application deadline: None for preliminary inquiry forms 
Geographic scope: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin 
Grant amount: $5,000 to $50,000 
Description: The Jeffris Family Foundation’s Jeffris Heartland Fund supports historic preservation projects in small towns and cities in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. The Fund provides matching grants for advanced planning studies for historic preservation projects preparing for a capital campaign and a restoration project. Grants will cover 50% of the cost of a Historic Structure Report, and must be matched dollar-for-dollar with cash from other sources. Projects must be located in small towns and cities with a population under 150,000 that are not within a major metropolitan area, and the historic site must be individually listed on, or have documentation that it is individually eligible for, the National Register of Historic Places. Established nonprofit organizations or government agencies in partnership with a nonprofit organization are eligible to apply. The first step in the application process is to take an eligibility quiz on the Foundation’s website.

Grants Promote Social Change Led by BIPOC Artists in AL, LA, and MSdrama masks

National Performance Network: Southern Artists for Social Change

Application deadline: Letters of intent are due July 31, 2023. 
Geographic scope: Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi 
Grant amount: $75,000 over three years 
Description: The National Performance Network’s Southern Artists for Social Change program provides three-year project grants of $25,000 a year to artists and culture bearers of color living, working, and engaging in social change in urban, rural, and tribal communities of Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Individuals and artist collectives who identify as Black, Indigenous, or people of color (BIPOC) and have a demonstrated practice in any discipline are eligible. Supported projects should demonstrate a civic practice process to 1) identify specific community challenges or needs; 2) imagine a different future for the community; and 3) practice, test, or design approaches toward that future that center racial justice. New Mexico Healthcare Efforts Fundedambulence

Con Alma Health Foundation: Con Alma Grants

Application deadline: Applications will be accepted from May 17 to June 16, 2023. 
Geographic scope: New Mexico 
Description: The mission of Con Alma Health Foundation is to be aware of and respond to the health rights and needs of culturally and demographically diverse peoples and communities of New Mexico. The Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations working to improve health and advance health equity for people who live in New Mexico. The Foundation’s Con Alma Grants support nonprofits whose work incorporates an equity and social justice lens to ensure that New Mexico’s diverse populations and communities have full access and opportunities to lead healthy lives. (Applications for Northern New Mexico Health Grants, addressing the health and wellness of the diverse peoples of Los Alamos, Rio Arriba, and northern Santa Fe counties, will open in June 2023.)

Description: The STEM Talent Challenge supports projects that implement innovative science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) work-based learning models (such as registered apprenticeships) and that complement their respective region's innovation economy. The Challenge seeks to develop or expand regional workforce capacity to support high-growth, high-wage entrepreneurial ventures; industries of the future (which usually includes industries that leverage emerging technologies); and other innovation-driven businesses that have a high likelihood of accelerating economic competitiveness and job creation in their respective regions and in the United States.

Program Helps Veterans Gain Agricultural Skillsdiploma

Application deadline: June 19, 2023 
Description: The Enhancing Agricultural Opportunities for Military Veterans Competitive Grants Program seeks to increase the number of military veterans gaining knowledge and skills through comprehensive, hands-on, and immersive model farm and ranch programs offered regionally that lead to successful careers in the food and agricultural sector. The program encourages the development of training opportunities specifically designed for military veterans. Supported projects will offer onsite, hands-on training and classroom education leading to a comprehensive understanding of successful farm and ranch operations and management practices. Projects may also offer workforce readiness and employment prospects for service-disabled veterans.
