Grants Address Cybersecurity Issues

Kyndryl Foundation

Application deadline: November 6, 2023
Geographic scope: United States, Japan, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and India
Grant amount: Grants will be made in the following categories: Signature Grants of $250,000 and up, Partner Grants of between $100,000 and $250,000, and Catalyst Grants of $100,000 or less.
Description: The Kyndryl Foundation, the charitable arm of Kyndryl Inc., an IT infrastructure services provider, supports social and environmental initiatives where Kyndryl Inc.’s technology and workforce can be leveraged to make the greatest impact. In 2023, the Foundation will provide support for organizations based in or delivering impact in one of Kyndryl's core countries, currently including the United States, Japan, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovakia, and India. In the U.S., potential priority may be given to regions where Kyndryl has a stronger presence, such as Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, New York, Missouri, Texas, and Georgia. Support will be provided in the categories of 1) growing an inclusive cybersecurity workforce, including support for organizations and programs that provide cybersecurity training and career support to underserved communities, and 2) preparing nonprofits to be cyberattack-smart/nonprofit capacity building, including support for programs that train nonprofit employees to prevent cyberattacks and develop training materials. Nonprofit organizations based in the United States or those able to obtain a 501(c)(3) equivalency determination are eligible to apply. Organizations may request the full RFP through the Kyndryl Foundation website by filling out a simple application request form

Awards Recognize Programs for Alzheimer's Caregivers

Family Caregiver Alliance: Innovations in Alzheimer’s Caregiving Awards

Application deadline: October 6, 2023
Grant amount: Three $20,000 awards
Description: The Innovations in Alzheimer’s Caregiving Awards, administered by the Family Caregiver Alliance, recognize organizations in the United States who work to make the world a better place for family and friend caregivers and for those individuals living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. An award of $20,000 (three total) will be given in the following three categories: The Creative Expression category includes programs using art, music, theater, poetry, multimedia, or technology for creative engagement or other types of creative expression. The Diverse/Multicultural Communities category includes programs or projects that address a gap or chart a new way to deliver services, support, or outreach in diverse racial, ethnic, age, religious, LGBTQ+, rural, limited income, or other groups of caregivers with unique needs. The Public Policy category is for programs or projects that advocate for policy or system changes benefiting people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias and their family and informal caregivers. Nonprofit or tribal organizations, government agencies, and universities with programs or projects are eligible to apply.  This is an award for work already accomplished; it is not a grant application.

Consumer Internet Privacy Protection Efforts Funded

Rose Foundation for Communities and the Environment: Consumer Privacy Rights Fund

Application deadline: October 13, 2023
Grant amount: The maximum grant request is $150,000.
Description: The Rose Foundation for Communities and the Environment’s Consumer Privacy Rights Fund supports privacy protection and privacy education efforts. The Fund, enabled by a cy pres award from the In Re Google LLC Street View Electronic Communications Litigation class action settlement, is currently accepting proposals throughout the United States that advance individual consumer’s internet privacy rights, including, but not be limited to, the following issues or focus areas: collection or use of people’s personal data, surveillance and other intrusive behaviors, recording or monitoring internet communications without meaningful consent, the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in decisions made by agencies or corporations, and general support for organizations that are primarily or wholly dedicated to advancing privacy rights. Project activities may include policy or regulatory development, implementation, and advocacy; educational events for legislators and other policymakers; legal advocacy; public education or organizing; and the development of privacy-enhancing technologies. 501(c)(3) nonprofits, or organizations sponsored by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, that demonstrate expertise in consumer education or advocacy, especially related to consumer privacy rights, are eligible to apply. Potential applicants should review all the information on eligibility, scope of allowable projects, and prohibited activities found in the complete RFP (PDF).

Support Available for Legal Cases Advancing Justice

Impact Fund

Application deadlines: Grant requests are reviewed four times per year; the upcoming deadline for letters of inquiry is October 10, 2023.
Grant amount: Generally $10,000 to $50,000
Description: The Impact Fund provides grants to legal services nonprofits, private attorneys, and small law firms who seek to advance justice in the areas of civil and human rights, environmental justice, and poverty law. Most grants are for class actions, but funding has also been provided for multi-plaintiff and environmental justice cases that aim to significantly affect a larger system or lead to significant law reform. The grants may be used for out-of-pocket litigation expenses such as expert fees and discovery costs, but not for attorneys’ fees, staff, or other overhead. (Repayment of the original grant, plus 7% simple interest, is required for cases that achieve a fee or cost recovery. If a case does not recover fees or costs, then nothing is owed.) Rapid response grants are also provided for urgent financial assistance of up to $10,000 for sudden out-of-pocket litigation expenses for public interest impact lawsuits.

Norfolk Southern Corporate Giving

Application deadline: November 15, 2023
Geographic scope: 22 states where Norfolk Southern operates
Description: Norfolk Southern Corporate Giving is currently accepting applications from organizations in communities across Norfolk Southern’s 22-state network through two new grant programs. The Safety First Grant Program will provide support for organizations that directly provide safety services or operate programs that promote safe behavior, including first responders. The Thriving Communities Grant Program will provide project or general programmatic support for sustainability initiatives, workforce development programs, and community resiliency efforts. Nonprofit organizations, government entities, and public or charter schools are eligible to apply.

Grants Provided for Community Programs Featuring Artists in the Midwest

Arts Midwest: GIG Fund

Application deadline: September 21, 2023, for intents to apply, and October 3, 2023, for applications
Geographic scope: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and the Native nations that share this geography
Grant amount: $2,000 to $4,000
Description: Arts Midwest’s GIG Fund provides grants to Midwestern nonprofit organizations for programs and activities featuring professional artists. GIG Fund grants help organizations present artists in their community by supporting programming and touring costs. Nonprofit and tribal organizations with a budget of $1 million or less looking to present at least two community activities featuring a performing, visual, multimedia, or literary artist are eligible to apply.

Youth Development and Adult Job Programming Supported in Colorado

Adolph Coors Foundation

Application deadlines: Applications are accepted three times a year. The upcoming deadline is November 1, 2023. (Public policy requests are only accepted January 1 to March 1, annually.)
Geographic scope: Colorado (Public Policy requests may be accepted nationally.)
Description: The Adolph Coors Foundation aims to provide the opportunity for Coloradans to experience the best life possible. The Foundation supports organizations that promote the western values of self-reliance, personal responsibility, and integrity to foster an environment where entrepreneurial spirits flourish. Applications are accepted in the areas of youth and youth development, including mentoring, academic tutoring, character development, leadership, STEM, and financial literacy; adult work programs, including paid on-the-job training, vocational training, and job placement; and public policy, including efforts to enhance understanding of the free enterprise system, preserve the principles upon which U.S. democracy was founded to help ensure a limited role for government and the protection of individual rights, encourage personal responsibility and leadership, and uphold traditional American values. (Public policy requests may be accepted from organizations nationally; all other organizations must operate in Colorado, with special consideration given to rural Colorado nonprofits.)

The Oak Hill Fund: Women's Reproductive Health, Rights & Justice

Application deadline: None
Geographic scope: Southeastern United States
Description: The mission of the Oak Hill Fund is to promote the well-being of mankind through effective and inspiring grantmaking. The Fund’s Women's Reproductive Health, Rights & Justice program provides support to nonprofit organizations in the southeastern United States, including AL, DE, FL, GA, KY, MD, MS, NC, SC, TN, VA, WV, and Washington DC. Support is provided for project specific proposals to 1) provide, promote, or defend access to safe, affordable reproductive healthcare and services; and 2) educate policymakers and the public on the importance of reproductive health, rights, and justice to women and families.

Funds Available for Solar Energy Expansion

Environmental Protection Agency

Application deadline: October 12, 2023
Description: The purpose of the Solar for All competition is to enable millions of low-income households to access affordable, resilient, and clean solar energy. The competition will distribute funds to expand existing low-income solar programs or design and deploy new Solar for All programs nationwide. Solar for All grantees will provide subsidies and other financial assistance to residential rooftop and residential-serving community solar projects in and benefiting low-income and disadvantaged communities. In addition, grantees will provide project deployment technical assistance such as workforce development, community outreach, and other project-deployment support (e.g., interconnection technical assistance and siting and permitting support) to help overcome barriers to solar deployment.

Description: The Community Food Projects Competitive Grants Program seeks to improve food and nutrition security in low-income communities through a food systems approach and social determinants of health framework. Two types of grants are available: Community Food Projects and Planning Projects. Community Food Project grants support the development of projects with a one-time infusion of federal dollars to make such projects self-sustaining. Planning Project grants provide support to complete a plan toward the improvement of community food security.
