Funds Promote Military and Veteran Community Health and Well-Being
Bob Woodruff Foundation

The Bob Woodruff Foundation Grants Program funds programmatic efforts serving the military and veteran community in the United States. The focus is on programs that improve overall health and well-being of service members, veterans, their families, and caregivers, including programs that improve social determinants of health, decrease barriers to accessing physical and mental healthcare, increase accessibility to programming that fosters a healthy lifestyle, and enhance opportunities for veterans to thrive after service. Funded organizations and programs must provide direct services to the military/veteran population and be administered through a nonprofit organization. Applications are accepted year-round and awarded twice a year, in the spring and fall. The upcoming application deadline is January 12, 2023. National Gun Safety and Civic Engagement Efforts Supported
William Talbott Hillman Foundation

The William Talbott Hillman Foundation strives for a future where creativity is nurtured, democracy is upheld, and gun violence is no more. Foundation priorities include national efforts around gun safety and civic engagement with a focus on young people and BIPOC communities, including work to strengthen gun safety laws, prevent gun-related suicides, and drive voter and civic engagement. Support is also provided for New York City-based art institutions with a focus on innovative arts programming, professional development, arts education, and the promotion of photography as a fine arts medium. Applications may be submitted throughout the year through William Talbott Hillman Foundation's online application portal and are reviewed on a quarterly basis.

Grants Strengthen Healthcare for Individuals With Developmental Disabilities
WITH Foundation

The WITH Foundation provides support to nonprofit organizations throughout the U.S. that promote comprehensive healthcare for adults with developmental disabilities. Grants, usually between $30,000 and $50,000, are provided for programs that improve delivery of healthcare to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities and do at least one of the following: improve health practitioner competency through education or training programs, address the current inadequate reimbursement system, advance innovations in formal care coordination, enhance advocacy regarding the inadequacies of developmentally disabled care in order to advance systemic change, increase understanding of supported decision-making in healthcare settings, promote national digital health efforts that support designers and developers to include the perspectives and experiences of the developmental disability community within the design process, identify and overcome barriers to high-quality healthcare access, and perform social policy research. The upcoming deadline for letters of interest is December 9, 2022; for applicants selected to advance to full proposals, proposals must be submitted by January 30, 2023. Adult Literacy Programs Funded
ProLiteracy: Literacy Opportunity Fund

ProLiteracy supports adult literacy programs across the United States. The Literacy Opportunity Fund, administered by ProLiteracy with funding by the Nora Roberts Foundation, awards grants to nonprofit organizations within the United States that provide literacy services directly to students. Grants ranging from $3,000 to $6,000 support general operating expenses. Applications are reviewed quarterly; the upcoming application deadline is January 3, 2023. Opportunities for specific geographic areas

Support Available for Green Infrastructure Projects in East Coast States and Canada
Arbor Day Foundation: TD Green Space Grants

TD Green Space Grants, administered by the Arbor Day Foundation, support green infrastructure development, tree planting, forestry stewardship, and community green space expansion as a way to advance environmental and economic benefits toward a low-carbon economy in the U.S. and Canada. Through the program, municipalities within TD's footprint on the East Coast of the United States and across Canada are eligible to receive $20,000 USD ($25,000 CAD) grants in support of local forestry projects in areas of great need within a community. Special consideration will be given to projects that address the current theme, "Using Green Infrastructure to Cool Vulnerable Neighborhoods." Priority is given to projects in areas that primarily serve low- to moderate-income residents or take place in underserved communities. For communities applying within the U.S., preference will be given to currently recognized Tree City USA communities or those interested in becoming a Tree City USA community over the next calendar year. The application deadline is December 9, 2022. Visit the Arbor Day Foundation website to review the eligibility criteria and complete the online application.

Grants Improve Quality of Life in Maryland and Utah
Kahlert Foundation

The Kahlert Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations to improve the quality of life and well-being of communities in Maryland and Utah. Areas of interest include healthcare, education, youth programs, veteran organizations, and human services. Maryland grants support nonprofit organizations serving the state of Maryland and surrounding areas, with a primary focus on Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Carroll County, Frederick County, and Howard County. Utah grants are for nonprofit organizations serving the state of Utah. Grants may be awarded for capital campaigns, special projects or programs, staffing, and general operations. Letters of intent for new grantees must be completed 60 days prior to the full grant request deadline. The annual grant request deadlines are January 1, May 1, and September 1 for Maryland, and May 1 for Utah. Organizations Funded in the Pacific Northwest
M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust

The M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust is a capacity building organization that invests in nonprofit organizations in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington to help improve the quality of life in the Pacific Northwest. Areas of interest include arts and culture, education, health, human services, and scientific research. The Trust's Strategic Project Grants provide the following types of support: capital grants, for construction, renovation, land purchase, and other capital projects; equipment and technology grants; and program and staff support, including new programs and the expansion of existing programs. Strategic Project Grant requests of less than $50,000 are discouraged. (The Trust also offers Initiative Grants in specific areas of interest.) Letters of inquiry may be submitted throughout the year. Visit the Trust's website to review the areas of interest and begin the application process.

Grants Target Bank Communities in the Southern U.S.
First Horizon Foundation

First Horizon Foundation provides support in communities where First Horizon Corporation operates, including areas of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. Areas of interest include arts and culture, education and leadership, environment, financial literacy, and health and human services. As of October 1, 2022, grant applications are being accepted for 2023. Application deadlines vary by geographic region. Legal Services for Veterans Supported
Department of Veterans Affairs

The Legal Services for Veterans program aims to increase access to legal services to eligible veterans. Some legal services that may be provided under these grants include services related to housing, family law, income support, criminal defense in matters symptomatic of homelessness, requests for an upgrade to the character of discharge from the U.S. Armed Forces, access to healthcare, and employment law. The application deadline is December 30, 2022.

Grants Available for Newspaper Preservation
National Endowment for the Humanities

The National Digital Newspaper Program's purpose is to create a national digital resource of historically significant newspapers published between 1690 and 1963, from all states and U.S. jurisdictions. Funds may also be used for dissemination activities that engage the wider public in exploring the digitized content. Optional drafts are due December 1, 2022, and the application deadline is January 12, 2023.
