U.S. Cities May Request up to $1 Million for Public Art Projects
Bloomberg Philanthropies: Public Art Challenge

Bloomberg Philanthropies' Public Art Challenge supports innovative temporary public art projects that enhance the vibrancy of cities in the 50 United States and territories including Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Northern Marianas. Mayors of U.S. cities with 30,000 residents or more may apply for up to $1 million in funding to create temporary public art projects that celebrate creativity, enhance urban identity, encourage public-private collaborations, and strengthen local economies. Submissions across all artistic disciplines will be considered. Up to ten winners will be chosen to execute their projects, which may include multiple installations in a single city, over 24 months. Grants will cover project-related expenditures including development, execution, and marketing. Applications must be submitted by the mayor or chief executive of the city on behalf of a collaboration between the city and an artist or arts organization. The deadline to apply is February 15, 2023. The online application is available on the Public Art Challenge website.

Youth Volunteer Efforts Addressing Hunger Supported
Youth Service America: Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation Youth Grants

With support from the Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation, Youth Service America (YSA) is offering Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation Youth Grants to youth changemakers throughout the United States, aged five to 25, to lead awareness, direct service, advocacy, and philanthropic projects that focus on ending childhood hunger in their communities. Youth may apply for grants of either $250, for projects engaging at least 25 other youth as volunteers, or $500, for projects that have 50 other youth volunteers. Supported projects must be led by youth living in the U.S. and benefit children and families in the U.S., engage youth not typically asked to serve as volunteers, and take place during Youth Service Month (April 14-May 14, 2023), with some activity on Global Youth Service Day (April 28-30) strongly encouraged. Projects may take place in schools, colleges/universities, after-school programs, youth organizations, nonprofits, or faith-based organizations. The application deadline is January 16, 2023. Funding Promotes Pediatric Health Initiatives in the U.S. and Canada
American Academy of Pediatrics: Community Access to Child Health (CATCH)

The American Academy of Pediatrics' Community Access to Child Health (CATCH) program supports pediatricians in the U.S. and Canada to collaborate within their communities to advance the health of all children. CATCH's Planning and Implementation grants of $10,000 are provided to individual pediatricians or fellowship trainees for the planning or initial implementation/pilot of innovative, community-based initiatives that increase children's access to optimal health or well-being. U.S. and Canadian general pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, pediatric surgical subspecialists, and fellowship trainees are eligible to apply. In addition, Resident Grants of $2,000 are available to U.S. and Canadian pediatric residents for the planning and implementation of community-based initiatives that increase children's access to optimal health or well-being. Teacher Professional Development Fellowships Available
Fund for Teachers

Fund for Teachers strengthens instruction by investing in outstanding teachers' self-determined professional growth and development in order to support student success, enrich teachers' practice, and strengthen schools and communities. Summer fellowship grants are provided to pre-K-12 teachers throughout the continental United States and Hawaii to pursue self-designed professional learning. Teachers decide what they want to learn and where they want to learn it. As scientists, researchers, artists, and agents of change, selected Fellows return to their classrooms with new ideas that transform student learning and achievement. Full-time pre-K-12 grade teachers who spend at least 50% of their time directly providing instruction to students and have at least three years' experience are eligible to apply. Individuals may apply for up to $5,000, and teams may apply for up to $10,000. The application deadline is January 19, 2023. Application guidelines are available on the Fund for Teachers website.

New Grant Program Boosts Washington State Cultural Organizations
ArtsFund: Community Accelerator Grant Program

The Community Accelerator Grant Program, a new grantmaking program offered by ArtsFund, will provide a total of $10 million in unrestricted grants for cultural nonprofit organizations across Washington state. The program, funded by the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, will provide grants of $2,500 to $25,000 to nonprofit cultural organizations whose primary mission is to produce or support arts and cultural activities. The aim is to boost arts organizations' ability to invest in their missions and essential roles serving communities across the state. Washington state-based arts and cultural organizations, including fiscally sponsored organizations and tribal organizations, with a three-year average budget of $25,000 or greater are eligible to apply. A webinar information session will be hosted by ArtsFund on December 9, 2022, and applications will be accepted from January 4 through January 31, 2023. Support Strengthens Women of Color Leadership in Southern States
Ms. Foundation for Women: Ms. South

The Ms. Foundation for Women's Ms. South strategy supports the leadership of women and girls of color (WGOC) and strengthens their ecosystem of leaders in 14 key states in the U.S. south: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and West Virginia. In this round of grantmaking, the Foundation will invest over $1,500,000 in support of WGOC-led groups across the spectrum of movement building and organizing. The goals are to strengthen the organizational and financial sustainability of an ecosystem of WGOC-led organizations, increase connectivity between WGOC-led organizations, and position WGOC leaders as key experts and decision-makers in shaping policy and culture change. General operating support grants of $20,000 to $50,000 per year for up to two years will be provided. The application deadline is January 13, 2023. Programs Benefiting Minnesota Children and Families Funded
The Sheltering Arms Foundation

The Sheltering Arms Foundation provides grants to nonprofit organizations in Minnesota that benefit children and families who have the least access to resources. The Foundation supports high quality, direct-service programs for children ages zero to 12 in the areas of early childhood and youth development, including early care and education, home visiting and parent education, early childhood mental health programs, and out-of-school time and mentoring programs in school-based and community settings. In addition, support is provided for advocacy efforts that increase access to high quality, culturally appropriate early childhood care and education and youth development opportunities. Nonprofit organizations located and providing services in Minnesota are eligible to apply. Grants range up to $15,000, with an average grant award of $10,000. The application deadline is January 26, 2023. (Prior to applying, organizations are required to contact Foundation staff to talk about how a project fits with the Foundation's guidelines.) Grants Enhance Quality of Life in Vermont
Richard E. and Deborah L. Tarrant Foundation

The Richard E. and Deborah L. Tarrant Foundation's mission is to help meet basic needs, create opportunity, and improve the lives of people in Vermont. Between 35% to 45% of the Foundation's grants each year are distributed by way of an open application process through the Community Grants program. Grantmaking is primarily focused on the following populations and strategies: youth, including programs that support school-age youth to develop the dispositions, skills, and resources they will need to move productively into adulthood; working-age adults, with a focus on employment and financial independence; seniors, including ensuring that seniors' most basic needs are met and community-based supports that promote well-being and fight the premature limitation of independence; and communities, with a focus on small grants to complement Vermont communities' own investments in important local resources and services. Program Advances Public STEM Efforts
National Science Foundation

The Advancing Informal STEM Learning Program seeks to fund research and practice, with a focus on investigating a range of informal STEM learning experiences and environments that make lifelong learning a reality. The current solicitation encourages proposals from institutions and organizations that serve public audiences and specifically focus on public engagement with and understanding of STEM, including community STEM, public participation in scientific research, science communication, intergenerational STEM engagement, and STEM media. Five types of projects will be supported: synthesis, conferences, partnership development and planning, integrating research and practice, and research in support of wide-reaching public engagement with STEM. The application deadline is January 11, 2023.

Low-Income Housing for Seniors Supported
Department of Housing and Urban Development

The Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program supports the development and ongoing operation of supportive rental housing for very low-income persons, aged 62 years or older. The Program provides elderly persons with the opportunity to live independently, but with important voluntary support services such as nutritional, transportation, continuing education, or health-related services. In addition, funds are available to support the development of intergenerational housing for elderly caregivers raising children. The application deadline is January 25, 2023.

2022 Donor-Advised Fund Report
Philanthropic dollars are increasingly being funneled through donor-advised funds. Are you interested in learning more about trends in this area? If so, the 2022 Donor-Advised Fund Report may provide some insights. Published by the National Philanthropic Trust, this report examines data from 995 charitable organizations that sponsor donor-advised funds. The results show dramatic growth in all four key metrics: grants, contributions, charitable assets, and number of accounts.
