Grants Aim to Empower Women and Girls in Canada and the U.S.

Aura Cacia: Positive Change Project

Application deadline: Applications will be accepted from July 17 to August 31, 2023.
Grant amount: Grants range from $30,000 to $100,000 over two years. 
Description: Aura Cacia's Positive Change Project supports nonprofit organizations in Canada and the U.S. that are committed to helping women and girls facing difficult life situations make transformational improvements in their lives. Grants support organizations and programs that provide services and resources directly to women and girls who face substantial barriers to sustaining their commitment to positive change; enable disadvantaged women and girls to become more stable and self-sufficient; employ strategies to help women and girls live healthfully and purposefully; reinforce positive self-image, self-respect, and self-confidence in women and girls; and create opportunities for women to drive curriculum or programming that can be applied to program development and mentoring other women. Organizations with an annual budget between $2 million and $8 million are eligible to apply.

Funding Targets Cancer, Financial Education, and Inclusive Communities

CIBC Foundation

Application deadline: Requests are accepted year-round and reviewed between March and October.
Description: The CIBC Foundation, the corporate foundation of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, provides support in Canada with the aim of creating a world without limits to ambition. Funding targets cancer causes, inclusive communities, and financial education. Cancer support is focused on research, treatment, screening, and diagnosis, as well as wellness, survivorship, and patient support programs. In the area of inclusive communities, funding is provided for projects in the areas of education and employment for underserved communities, healthy and active living, education and enrichment, and help for high needs children ages 13 and under. Through its support for financial education, the Foundation invests in financial education resources and learning opportunities.

Initiatives Benefiting the Japanese Canadian Community Supported

Japanese Canadian Legacies Community Fund

Application deadline: The deadline for the Infrastructure Stream is November 1, 2023. Applications for the Community Projects Stream will be accepted from July 1 to October 31, 2023. Applications for the Sports Stream and the Arts Stream will open in September and November, respectively.
Description: The Japanese Canadian Legacies Community Fund addresses the intergenerational impact that government actions before, during, and after World War II had on the Japanese Canadian community. Support is provided through the following funding streams: The Infrastructure Stream supports Japanese Canadian organizations and groups with building improvements or capital purchases. The Community Projects Stream supports community-led projects that promote Japanese or Japanese Canadian culture or enable Japanese Canadians to connect with one another, their culture(s), or their identity. The Sports Stream aims to encourage and enhance sport performance and leadership among Japanese Canadian descendants or survivors by supporting high-performance athletes and high-performance coaches with funds towards their development and pursuit of sport excellence. The Arts stream assists Japanese Canadian artists who are Japanese Canadian descendants or survivors with funding to create and produce finished artistic projects or artworks.

Grants Advance Health Across Canada

Janssen Canada: Charitable Donations and Community Support

Application deadline: None
Description: Janssen Canada is dedicated to pursuing a healthier future for patients and those most vulnerable in communities across Canada. The company’s Charitable Donations and Community Support program funds registered nonprofit organizations that benefit patients or that have a meaningful impact in local communities and the Canadian healthcare ecosystem, with an emphasis on initiatives that address health disparities or unmet healthcare needs. Areas of interest include advancing women's and children's health; supporting equity deserving groups and populations with health disparities; accelerating innovative solutions to address Canadian and global disease challenges; providing disaster relief and building resilient health systems and communities; and science and education programs and initiatives. Priority is given to initiatives assisting equity deserving groups and addressing health inequities. Rocky Mountain Equipment Corporate Giving Program

RME Right by You Ag Society Grant: July 30, 2023
Geographic scope: Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan
Grant amount: The RME Right by You Ag Society Grant program will award four grants of $10,000 each. 
Description: Rocky Mountain Equipment (RME) provides support in company communities across Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan through two programs. The Community Investment Program supports organizations and community groups that contribute to the strengthening of the agricultural and construction industry in company communities. Interests include agriculture and construction advocacy, safety, and youth development. Applications for this program may be submitted at any time. The RME Right by You Ag Society Grant program awards grants to agricultural societies in eligible provinces for projects that enhance the lives of community residents.

Domestic Violence Prevention Efforts Funded in Atlantic Canada

Fergusson Foundation

Application deadline: The Foundation will begin accepting applications on July 4, 2023.
Geographic scope: New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island
Description: The Fergusson Foundation is committed to being a catalyst for the prevention and elimination of family violence. The Foundation awards grants biennially to registered Canadian charities based in and serving Atlantic Canada with projects that align with the Foundation's three pillars of general awareness, intervention, and prevention and elimination. Projects must have a practical application and have an impact on those affected by family violence, which may include victims, survivors, perpetrators, or their families and communities. Eligible projects may include, but are not limited to, the provision of services to those impacted by family violence, including counseling and assistance, education and training, and other services, and the development of programs for the education of staff or volunteers working in the area of family violence, or the general public.

Initiatives Enhancing the Lives of Montreal Seniors Supported

Lindsay Memorial Foundation

Application deadline: Applications must be submitted by September 15, 2023. Funds are distributed once a year in November.
Geographic scope: Montreal, QC, and surrounding areas
Grant amount: Grants are typically in the $3,000 to $25,000 range. (Disbursement funding comes from income earned on investments, and is calculated annually following the guidelines for disbursement of funds mandated by the CRA.)
Description: The Lindsay Memorial Foundation provides financial support to registered community organizations or institutions whose mission is to improve the quality of life of the older adult population in Montreal and surrounding areas. The Foundation defines older adults as those 65 and older. Priority is given to projects and programs that focus on food supply, clothing and shelter, transportation, health promotion, and social isolation and loneliness.

Giving Program Strengthens Communities in AB, BC, ON, and the U.S.

Capital Power Community Investment Program

Application deadline: There is no deadline for the Community Investment Program. Applications for the Community Sustainability Fund are due by September 30, 2023.
Geographic scope: Company communities in the U.S. and Canada, including locations in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario
Grant amount: Community Sustainability Fund grants range up to $20,000, with a total allocation of $200,000 for 2023.
Description: The Capital Power Community Investment Program supports nonprofit organizations that address the needs of communities where the company operates in the U.S. and Canada. The company provides support in the areas of well-being, equity and culture, and climate action. In addition, for 2023, the company is offering support through the Community Sustainability Fund for grassroots projects that enhance sustainability and benefit company communities.

Application deadline: July 26, 2023
Description: The Environmental Damages Fund directs funds received from fines, court orders, and voluntary payments to priority projects that will benefit Canada’s natural environment. Funding is awarded to projects that restore damage to the natural environment and support wildlife conservation, in a cost-effective way. Support is provided for projects that focus on the following categories in order of priority: restoration, environmental quality improvement, research and development, and education and awareness. There are currently funds available in selected provinces.

Support Available for Infrastructure Projects Mitigating Climate-Related Risks

Geographic scope: Canada
Application deadline: July 19, 2023
Description: The Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund supports infrastructure projects designed to mitigate current and future climate-related risks and disasters triggered by natural hazards, such as floods, wildland fires, droughts, and seismic events. Eligible projects include new construction of public infrastructure or modification or reinforcement of existing public infrastructure including natural infrastructure that prevents, mitigates, or protects against the impacts of climate change, disasters triggered by natural hazards, and extreme weather.
