$50,000 Grants Advance STEM Education for Women of Color
F5 STEM Education Grant
Application deadline: August 18, 2023
Geographic scope: United States and internationally
Grant amount: $50,000 unrestricted grants
Description: F5’s STEM Education Grant aims to help build the pipeline of female changemakers and future leaders by investing in programs to increase access to STEM education and career opportunities for girls and women of color. Support is provided to nonprofit organizations around the world that have a primary focus on increasing access, capacity building, career development, or other related work with the goal of increasing representation of women of color in STEM education, especially the technology sector. Funded projects must serve a majority (>50%) women of color or girls of color. Nonprofit organizations that are legally registered charitable organizations in the country where they operate, or are fiscally sponsored by a legally registered charitable organization, for at least three years are eligible to apply.
Funding Promotes Innovative Law-Related Programs
American Bar Endowment: Opportunity Grant Program
Application deadline: September 1, 2023, for letters of inquiry, and October 6, 2023, for invited applications
Grant amount: Typically $25,000 or less
Description: The American Bar Endowment’s Opportunity Grant Program provides funding for new and innovative law-related projects and programs of importance to the public and the legal profession in the United States. Funding focus areas include 1) enhancing access to justice, especially for vulnerable and underserved populations using innovations to legal services delivery, capacity-building, or pro bono service; 2) improvement of the justice system, including ensuring equal justice and elimination of bias; and 3) increasing public understanding of legal rights and responsibilities so people can recognize legal problems and know how to address them. Examples of funded efforts include projects that build organizational capacity to serve clients better; develop tools, technology, or approaches that the broader legal community could use; launch a new law-related program; or document or prove a best practice.
Support Available for Environmental Health and Justice Work
Center for Health, Environment and Justice: Small Grants Program
Application deadline: August 14, 2023
Grant amount: $1,000 to $20,000
Description: Through its Small Grants Program, the Center for Health, Environment and Justice provides support for grassroots groups working on environmental health and justice issues in the United States. The focus is on addressing environmental threats and associated public health harms. Support is provided for projects that help groups move toward their goals by building leadership, increasing capacity, or providing training and education. Funded activities can include board development, membership outreach, fundraising efforts, development of organizing and strategic plans, events that are part of those plans, training leaders to go door-to-door, educational activities connected to a strategic plan, and communications equipment. Grassroots communities of color and low wealth, rural, and urban groups are encouraged to apply.

Brooks and Joan Fortune Family Foundation
Application deadline: None
Grant amount: Primarily $1,000 to $10,000
Description: The Brooks and Joan Fortune Family Foundation was established to support education and the arts. While the Foundation has historically supported nonprofit organizations in Florida and Indiana, requests from around the country are considered. The Foundation primarily supports education, art, and outreach programs and projects. Grants of between $1,000 and $10,000 receive greater consideration.

SEG Gives Foundation: Romay Davis Belonging, Inclusion and Diversity Grant

Geographic scope: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi
Grant amount: $5,000 to $25,000
Description: The SEG Gives Foundation, the charitable arm of Southeastern Grocers Inc., is now accepting applications from nonprofit organizations in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi through the 2023 Romay Davis Belonging, Inclusion and Diversity Grant. Support is provided to nonprofit organizations with missions to elevate underserved communities that are working to address racial disparities in healthcare, food insecurity, and education, while building a more inclusive and equitable future for all. Grants Enhance Health Equity in Kansas
Kansas Health Foundation: Building Power and Equity Partnerships Initiative

Geographic scope: Kansas
Grant amount: Up to $100,000 each year for three years, plus additional supports
Description: The purpose of Kansas Health Foundation’s Building Power and Equity Partnership Initiative is to advance racial and health equity across Kansas by building and increasing the power and influence of organizations serving communities with the greatest racial and health disparities. Through the current opportunity, the Foundation will fund 30 organizations who are currently working in communities to advance racial and health equity in Kansas and whose work aligns with the Foundation’s support of diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. Selected partner organizations will receive $100,000 each year for the initial three-year grant period, as well as access to additional services. Nonprofit organizations with operating budgets between $50,000 and $500,000 that serve Black, Indigenous, Hispanic/Latino, and people of color impacted by health inequities, or work closest to urban and rural communities with the greatest health disparities, are eligible to apply.
Reproductive Justice Organizing Supported in the Northwest
Social Justice Fund Northwest: Reproductive Justice Grant
Application deadline: August 17, 2023
Geographic scope: Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming
Grant amount: $17,500
Description: Social Justice Fund Northwest’s 2023 Reproductive Justice Grant will support grassroots, community organizing efforts that advance the movement for reproductive justice in Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming. These grants will support groups whose work increases access to self-determination, bodily autonomy, and reproductive/sexual health. Priority will be given to organizations with Black, Indigenous, or people of color leadership, and who conduct most of their work in reservation communities or rural, small town communities.
Funds Provided for the Preservation of New York Public Lands
Parks & Trails New York: Park and Trail Partnership Grants
Application deadline: September 8, 2023 (Professional development applicants must submit a letter of intent by July 27, 2023.)
Geographic scope: New York
Description: Parks & Trails New York (PTNY) works to expand, protect, and promote a network of parks, trails, and open spaces throughout New York State for use and enjoyment by all. PTNY's Park and Trail Partnership Grants program provides matching grants to organizations working in preservation, stewardship, interpretation, environmental education, maintenance, and promotion of New York parks, trails, historic sites, or public lands. Types of grants include Capacity and Organizational Effectiveness Grants of up to $200,000; Stewardship and Public Access Grants of up to $300,000; Professional Development Grants of up to $150,000 over two years; and Step-Up Grants of up to $20,000.

Forestry Efforts Supported

Description: The USDA Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry 2023 Challenge Cost Share Grant Program works in partnership with state and local forestry agencies, nonprofit and tribal organizations, and institutions of higher education to restore, sustain, and manage more than 140 million acres of urban and community forest lands for the benefit of communities in the United States. The Program seeks an inventory and assessment of existing hard copy and electronic urban and community forest management protocols. The end result should be a comprehensive program/software that compiles existing and emerging technology and best management practices into one comprehensive and adaptable application to be tested and utilized by pilot communities, tribal communities, island territories, and disadvantaged communities.
Program Improves Housing for Veterans

Description: The Veterans Housing Rehabilitation and Modification Pilot Program provides support to rehabilitate and modify the primary residence of veterans who are low income and have disabilities. The focus is on nationwide or statewide programs. The grants may be used to modify or rehabilitate eligible veterans’ primary residences or to provide grantees’ affiliates with technical, administrative, and training support in connection with those services.
