Global Funding Opportunities

Prize Honors Humanitarian Achievements
Conrad N. Hilton Foundation: Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize

The Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize, administered by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, is presented annually to a nonprofit organization judged to have made exemplary and extraordinary contributions toward alleviating human suffering. The $2.5 million award is given based on the organization’s accomplishments, rather than future goals. Key areas that are considered include the following: extraordinary contributions toward alleviating human suffering, an established record of achievement, innovation in program design, demonstration of a compelling programmatic approach to make a lasting impact, demonstration of effective partnerships, and organizational capacity and administrative efficiency. Nominees must be U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations or the international equivalent, have an operating budget larger than $750,000, and be legally established for at least five years. The nomination deadline is September 29, 2021. Visit the Foundation’s website to review the FAQs and start the online nomination process by creating an account.

Funding Available for Animal Welfare Organizations
Cold Noses Foundation

The Cold Noses Foundation is dedicated to preventing animal suffering around the world by funding life-saving veterinary care, outreach, and emergency relief programs. The Foundation awards grants to help organizations fund special projects relating to humane treatment of animals, find homes and non-lethal alternatives to euthanasia, provide veterinary care for needy families or organizations, and support humane education. Organizations enhancing the lives of homeless and neglected animals that have an income of $200,000 or less in the last fiscal year are eligible to apply. U.S organizations must be registered 501(c)(3) nonprofits. Non-U.S. organizations may be 501(c)(3) equivalent, which will be determined on a case-by-case basis. The upcoming deadline for spay and neuter and trap-neuter-return applications is September 30, 2021. Education, community outreach, and medical care applications are accepted from March 1 to April 30, annually. The grant guidelines and FAQs are available on the Foundation’s website.

Grants Enable Journalists Worldwide to Access Legal Support
Media Defence

Media Defence is an international human rights organization which provides legal help to journalists, citizen journalists, and independent media around the world. Two types of support are provided: Case support is provided to journalists—including citizen journalists, bloggers, broadcasters, photojournalists, cartoonists, and fact-checkers—and news outlets when they are confronted with legal action as a result of their reporting. Media Defense also funds local legal centers to provide free legal support to journalists in their country. There is no deadline to apply. Support for Projects in Mountains and Vertical Environments
Petzl Foundation

The Petzl Foundation serves mountain and vertical access communities that have enabled the company to grow and prosper worldwide. The Foundation awards grants for projects that take place in mountains or in any other vertical environment and that are related to outdoor leisure activities such as climbing and mountaineering or to the professional work-at-height sector such as tree care, technical rescue, and difficult access. Projects must fit into one of the following categories: accident prevention and risk management training, preservation of the environment, or scientific research. Nonprofit organizations, including French associations, EU or EEA non-governmental organizations or research institutes, and state-registered organizations such as 501(c)(3) organizations are eligible to apply. Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis. Visit the Foundation’s website to complete the eligibility quiz in order to download the application form.

 

Regional Funding Opportunities

Google Advertising Available to Nonprofits in Selected Countries
Google Ad Grants

Google Ad Grants help nonprofits share their causes with the world. The program provides up to $10,000 per month of in-kind Google search advertising for nonprofits. These ads allow organizations to raise awareness, attract new donors, and recruit new volunteers. Applications are accepted from organizations registered as a charitable organization in an eligible country. Organizations must register with TechSoup to undergo the nonprofit verification process. There is no deadline to apply. Visit the Google Ad Grants website to review the FAQs, which include a link to a video on how to launch a successful ad grants campaign.

Funds to Promote Women’s Health and Safety in India and Bangladesh
Resilience Fund for Women in Global Value Chains

The Resilience Fund for Women in Global Value Chains is a pooled funding initiative for companies, corporate foundations, and private foundations to invest in the long-term health, well-being, and economic resilience of women who form the backbone of global supply chains. The Fund will provide support to women-led, community-based organizations that are working on championing sexual and reproductive health and rights and women’s safety and security as long-term drivers of economic resilience. Applications are currently being accepted from nonprofit organizations in India and Bangladesh with an annual budget of at least $25,000, with priority given to smaller grassroots and women-led organizations. The deadline to apply is September 20, 2021. Visit the Fund’s website to review the FAQs and apply online.

Support for Initiatives Promoting an Open and Tolerant West Africa
Open Society Initiative for West Africa

The mission of the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) is to help build open societies in West Africa, where citizens enjoy the benefits of inclusive policies, good governance, vibrant democracies, transparency, accountability, equity, and respect for the rule of law and fundamental human rights. OSIWA works in Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, and Sierra Leone. Through its grants program, OSIWA aims to foster citizen participation in the building of a region that is freer, more vibrant, and more tolerant. Areas of focus include economic governance and advancement, equality and anti-discrimination, democratic practice, and justice reform and the rule of law. Grants are primarily awarded to local organizations based in the ten countries in West Africa where OSIWA works. Proposals may be submitted year-round. Documentary Film Projects in Selected Countries Funded
IDFA Bertha Fund

The IDFA Bertha Fund supports independent, critical, and artistic voices from Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe with the aim of stimulating and empowering the creative documentary sector in these regions. The Fund provides development, production, and distribution grants through the following funding schemes: IBF Classic offers development and production support to filmmakers from the above-mentioned regions. Directors or producers from a country on the IBF Classic Country List are eligible to apply. The upcoming application deadline is December 10, 2021. IBF Europe International Co-Production support is provided for documentary projects in all stages of production that have a director from a country on the IBF Europe Country List that are realized through international co-productions between at least one European and one non-European producer. Applications must be submitted by the European co-producer and should involve a creative element (i.e. a key crew member or post-production service) from Europe. IBF Europe Distribution support funds innovative distribution plans for documentaries realized through international co-productions between at least one European and one non-European producer. The next deadline to apply for IBF Europe Distribution funding is October 1, 2021; International Co-Production applications must be submitted by April 1, 2022. Support for Education Reform Benefiting Girls in Mozambique
USAID

The Advancing Girls Education Activity program aims to increase retention of girls ages ten to 19 in Mozambique schools who are vulnerable or at risk of dropping out of school due to physical, sexual, or psychological violence at school, teen pregnancy, or child marriage. The Activity will support the Mozambique government’s strategy of school-based reform in local communities to improve student retention and create access to education for girls and improve their learning environment. The closing date for applications is September 30, 2021.

Program Aims to Address Labor Issues in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras
Department of Labor

The Project to Increase Collective Action to Address Child Labor, Forced Labor, and Other Unacceptable Conditions of Work in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras aims to increase collective action to address child labor, forced labor, and other unacceptable conditions of work in all three countries. This program will include a focus on people of African descent, Garifuna, and Indigenous communities, and actions to promote gender and racial equity. Applications must be submitted by September 27, 2021.
