LIVE Workshop: Tracking Restricted Grants in QuickBooks: DESKTOP and ONLINE
Do you receive grants that are restricted in some way? Do you struggle to complete grant spending reports at the end of a grant period? Do you spend hours going through transactions and payroll reports trying to figure out which expenses were paid for from a grant? And what about grants with a budget by account that must be adhered to? By simply setting up a few things, you can easily get a P&L for each of your restricted grants (compared to budget if you’d like). You can also see reports for your grants all on one screen and in real time. All of this and more can be easily tracked right in your QuickBooks software. We are very excited to have Gregg Bossen, a CPA specializing in nonprofits and president of QuickBooks Made Easy for Nonprofits, deliver one of his most popular webinars exclusively for us! During this webinar, you will learn how and where to set up your grantors, how to enter grant revenue, how to point expenses to a grant, how to enter grant budgets, how to generate and memorize reports on your grants, and how to deal with future year grants received this year that make it look like you made much more money than you did.

  • The webinar for the DESKTOP version of QuickBooks will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2022.
  • The webinar for the ONLINE version of QuickBooks will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2022.

Advance Your Mission Through Fiscal Sponsorship
Do you want to focus on your cause instead of administration and regulatory tasks? You may be ready to look for funding for your projects, but if you don’t have the financial capacity to manage the grant, the 501(c)(3) status to be eligible, or the audit requirements set forth by the funder, then you can quickly hit a dead end. Fortunately, you can overcome these challenges through fiscal sponsorship. Many organizations have discovered that this structure is a perfect fit for the administrative needs of their programs. In fact, many projects that start with a fiscal sponsor do not end up establishing their own 501(c)(3) organization. But finding a fiscal sponsor is not a quick or easy task. You have to select the right model for your organization. And you must do your due diligence to find the right sponsor. During this TargetED, Alice Ruhnke will help you understand the guidelines and best practices for using or being a fiscal sponsor. You will learn more about the common pitfalls you must avoid, the essential questions to ask as you get started, different models of fiscal sponsorship; and the resources to help you take additional action. This webinar will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022.

The latest updates from GrantStation

An Introduction to Our Director of International Research, Ashlyn Simmons

I began working for GrantStation in 2003, my first job after graduating from college, when GrantStation was still based in an office in my hometown of Fairbanks, AK. I settled into the research department, primarily helping to keep the information in the U.S. Database up-to-date. After a couple of years, I left to pursue other activities, including an M.A. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages; however, I rejoined the GrantStation team in 2009, and have been on board part time since then, through the completion of my Master’s degree, an international move, and the arrival of my children.

Since returning, I have been involved in building out GrantStation’s Canadian and International databases, both of which are included in a paid GrantStation Membership. The Canadian Database profiles funders that provide support in Canada at the local, provincial, and national level, while the International Database focuses on funders working in all parts of the world, from individual countries, to continents, to globally. I continue to work primarily in these databases, updating the information and researching and adding new funders.

In addition, I recently took over as editor of the GrantStation Insider, our weekly newsletter focused on funding opportunities and other news of interest to organizations in the United States. The Insider is available to anyone, at no cost. (You do not have to be a GrantStation Member to receive it.) If you or someone you know is interested in signing up, you can do so here!

I am excited to be a part of providing important information to the wide range of nonprofit organizations and other institutions we serve, and look forward to continuing to do this. Please reach out to me if you have a question or comment about the International Database, Canadian Database, or the Insider.
